HUNTER MOUNTAIN!!!!!!!

Here Is A Pic Just To Build Up Excitement

Attached File  Hunter_Training_Day_1__12_27_06___Part_1__023.jpg (2.78MB)
Number of downloads: 86

All the pics were taken between 12-27-06 and 12-28-06 During the New York Wamr Spell of 2006 so there is not much snow but there will be pictures of almost every lift (even the ones that were closed) and some pics of the resort itself.

I expect to do the full Hunter update later this week between Wednesday and Sunday but I'll probably have it done on Thursday.

No offense bu I never understood these two things: a) why Hunter's run design layout is so awkward and traverse-y and b) why there were never lifts built on the much taller section of peak tucked behind the current mountain. .02

to answer why the back part of the hill has never been developed, that part of the hill is owned by the New York state department of environmental conservation and is deemed "forever wild" and the New York state constitution prohibits any and all building on the property.
Everything is just loop-de-loops and flibertyjibbit

i'm not sure why the runs on the main face are so traverse like they are but I believe it has something to do with the steepness of the mountain and not being able to create a straight down trail because when you ski donwn the winding trails on that part of the mountain, on one side of the trail, there is a steep drop while the other side is cliffs towering over the trail. Part B was answered above (i would like to add though, that the chairlifts do continue past what you se just it goes over a much lesser inclined area)

I do agree with the trail layout as being awkward because although the trail map doesn't show it, the mountain itself looks weird from the ground and it is easy to get confused where you are on the mountain.

PS: I will be posting the entire Hunter update in my "Lifts At Various New York Mountains" either today or tomorrow.

Thx for the input...I'm just surprised that anybody went to all the trouble of cutting through the rock to carve those runs out in the first place.

you can see how much was blown out for the trails when you look at the full size of the pic above, but that is not the front view of the mountain, it is turned a little (the front is visible in the picture above in the left side) but it shows the best example of dynamite work done to the hill itself.

Hunter is coming today!!!!!!!!!

One last tpic before the update:

This is what you see from the Base Lodge (well, normally there is much more snow). The lack of snow is due to the 55 degree average temperature in December 2006 (the warmspell of early Winter 2006).
