Peak 8 SuperConnect
How does that work? Does the line go through but the chairs get detached and re-attached going in the same direction? Very "nifty". I've always wanted to go to Breckenridge.

Yes, the chairs detach just like at the ends. They just don't turn around.

Yes, the chairs do detach. At the bottom, every two chairs are loaded and one is left unloaded. The midstation, however, acts not only as a way to load people out of the Peak 8/Peak 9 valley but it is also a turn in the lift line. On the loading side of the midstation the chairs go in an "S" turn to load people, and then it continues up the mountain.

If you want to go to Breckenridge, my tip is to choose a non-busy time. I mean avoid Holidays like New Years and the winter holidays. Those time are really crowded. If you go at a non-crowded time, Breckenridge is great! They have a lot of great easy and difficult terrain. Very fun!

Cool. Thanks for the tip. I proabaly won't go any time soon (I go with my family including cousins, etc. every year around holiday time, and we typically go to Stowe but we might go to snowmass) But I migh get lucky or when I can save up some cash I can go. (Will take YEARS, because I don't have a real job because I'm only 14)

Alta Ski Resort has an angle station at middle of the mountain include bottom and top. It is Collins Express. No one can get off the chairs at the mid-loading, but at middle of the mountain, the people can get on the chairs to the top. After 11 a.m., at the bottom, they keep each 10th chairs empty for at the middle, the people get on.

thanks for the pics, they help explain the reasoning and how they work.
i also noticed that there is no safety bar on the chairs but the lift looks fairly new...not that big of a safety issue?

All lifts at Alta have no safely bars. I don't know why. I used to it and no complain at all.

At the angle station has two separation terminals. The chairs go into the terminal, the chairs get off the cable, transfer into other terminal to get on and go up. Same way to go down.

I'm assuming its the same line, just hidden in the station. Isnt the new BreckConnect an angle station?

I think that the Alta chair has only one rope, if so it would be an angled mid station not two terminals.

Yes the Super connect does have an angled mid station and the Breckconnect has 2, the Riva Bahn is much less of an angle but it has an angled mid station as well.

Yes. That is a midstation. That is the BreckConnect gondola. It has 4 terminals.

The stations are as follows:
-Base/return station (it is in the parking lot at the base of ski hill road)
-Shock Hill station (this is an angle station)
-Peak 7 station-those two pictures are the peak 7 station (this is also an angle station)
-Peak 8 station (this is the drive terminal)

Shock Hill and Peak 7 stations are currently setup so the doors don't open. There is no unloading or loading. Or at least it was when I was there. Poloxskier, is it still like that?

The Shock Hill station was only closed for one week or so while they built a small maze for homeowners. The doors were opening and closing at shock hill the first few days it was open though. They have now opened it full force but I have never seen anyone use it, as the neighborhood builds out I'm sure that it will get more use.

The Collins Express is practically two separate lifts unlike the SuperConnect at Breck. Collins has 2 haul ropes and two drives, the chairs just switch between lifts in the middle without turning around.

Ah ok, I havent seen that lift in person so I wasnt sure. Thanks for the info on it.

Really? I thought the angle station have two terminals and two ropes between bottom/middle and middle/top since see the picture that two terminals are together connection. Because I rode and I felt the chair was swinging and chair was moved slow after the first terminal get the chair off the rope and make chairs slow down and move them forward to other terminal (it looks like transfer) and it speed the chairs up and go up to the mountain.

Skier is correct.

It is 2 ropes and 2 lifts. I am 100% sure. Look at the Doppelmayr Worldbook.

How do they keep the ropes syncronized with basically two different lifts?

Here's my favorite type of midstation. No angle change and only uphill chairs.

Well, computer technology has increased dramatically within the last few years making it easier to do.

There really wouldn't have to be a great deal of 'synching' going on. Except in rare circumstances (the bottom of the Quicksilver at Breck comes to mind) the tire banks are driven off a bullwheel or a set of PTO sheaves. Thus, the tires are already synched to the rope speed, and no computer assistance is necessary. If the two ropes are running at slightly different speeds, the only issue might be the transition between the two tire banks.
