Why was the Northway bullwheel removed after the chairs went on?! I saw all the Doppelmayr trucks from Utah in the lot last week, did something go wrong with the load test?

I believe the bullwheel was removed because a part supplied by Caterpillar was leaking fluid.

The remaining carriers were all supposed to have been put on today or yesterday. 80 carriers were already on the line prior to this incident occurring.

Crystal's website is saying Northway will open tomorrow (Sat 22nd)! Skier, can I'm assume you'll be on the first chair?

We'll, see it is going to be super crowded I think. There is going to be some sort of ceremony before they let anyone up. I presume John Kircher (Owner) and Scott Bowen (General Manager) or Keith Rollins (Director of Skiing) will be on the first chair, although ski patrol has ridden it a bunch already!

Of course you wouldn't make it on the actual first chair...but you could make it on the first public chair.

Pa's going to be on one of the first chairs, something about 'first stumps, first tracks' (or that's what he said on the phone the other day, anyway).

I've got lots, i'll upload them later. I was on the 15th chair. There was no ceremony, and the first chair was the first public chair. I chose to ski the Teddy Bear chutes rather than Bruce's Bowl so those people had a head start. The mountain really does feel a lot different with the new lift.

I actually took a video of the entire lift ride, I'll upload it to YouTube at some point.

Also, I pretty much avoided the new lift and skied Niagras and O-Meadows to I-5 which was great all day. The new lift stuff got skied out super fast.

Rather packed today for the new lift or usual crowds? I wish I could be there but my school district just loves to go back and forth across the water to Stevens pass to get a good deal yet wait in lift lines forever.

Still, great pics and looks just as bad as REX on the incline.

Great pics. That really was a great job on the construction crew to get it open before Christmas. How long is the ride time on Northway? It looks really long in the pictures

It is a very long lift, at just over a mile. They say the ride time is about 13 minutes. It goes by pretty quickly because the legs are tired after the long runs into it.

Nice.

I was a little jealous, I have to admit. I spoke to him this morning and he said it was pretty sweet that day, although as Skier said, it got tracked out. Turns out my youngest brother was running the bottom all day; he didn't get to ski much at all but he said it was a fun day with all the passengers being stoked on the new lift.

Not really construction pictures anymore... it's done! Will get some more @ a later date.

See... I wasn't lying - it just took me a while. Here's some pics from the motor room.
