It's often hard to trap those pesky intermittent faults - but if you set up a fault-actuated camera, they can be identified.
Here's one that we nailed recently.

I'm sure there'll be more.

That guy's been causing ground faults in our T-Bar tower circuit for years... but only when it's windy! It can't be anything else... all the wiring has been replaced, wiggled or poked with the lift running!

Here, once again, is the commutation fault - washed through the censor machine.
This guy who flames your commutator for no particular reason was originally offering the "one-finger salute" but quickly got "banned from Boston". Now, like me, his digit has been amputated at the second knuckle, but the sentiment remains.

Snow Valley's "Yanlet-in waiting" was visited by this notorious critter - known to be the one responsible for all mysterious wiring damages to unused lifts.
This little nasty has since left California and is said to be on his way to Colorado.

That little S.O.B even stole all of the Base-10 components and put them into other lifts.
If he is on his way to Colorado I hope he doesn't stop by your place e-max! You are in direct line between the two!

GROUND FAULT

Compared to the headaches they cause, these guys are generally very small in size - making them hard to locate.
Here's one photographed on top of an integrated circuit wafer.

This is actually a photo of my new (patented) Emergency Stop Button Guard, but since many shutdowns (accused of being "intermittent") are actually due to an inattentive or playful operator - I thought I'd post it here as well.

These guards will soon be available to the industry as retrofit kits and will sell for between $5 and $10 each - including epoxy. The nickname for this product will be Stoprick, but unfortunately - due to a verbal miscommunication with my subcontractor in Taiwan - they will come labeled "Stop-Plick".

You use the "delicate 2-fingered push"... thoughtfully.

Or you could make it so that a person would receive a nice electric shock when they push the button. If it's a real emergency, they wouldn't even feel it.

The intermittent ground fault is seldom on the ground - it fact, it spends most of its time airborne looking for a place to happen.
This one was captured on film near Running Springs, CA. It seems to be undecided as to whether to niggle the lift or the cellular antenna.
