Yesterday 1/20 my buddy was skiing on the Hunter Mtn West Side. When he went to get on Z-Lift he noticed that there was a lot of sag in the cable and the chairs were hanging real low. He thought it had something to do with the counter weight cable breaking. Anyone here anything about this. Always wondered what would happen on the old style lifts when a counter weight cable broke. From what my friend saw it wasn't much of a problem Then ran the lift real slow to empty the chairlift before closing it.

sounds like loss of pressure in a hydraulic tension system to me. you sure that lift's got a ctw?

it's unlikely that a counterweight cable failed, due to the fact that everyone realizes the implications of that failure. if there was a catastrophic (sp?) failure of a ctw rope and loaded carriers were in the vicinity, if would be a f**king mess.

I here what your saying about the f....ing mess. That is what I thought. About 30+ years ago in another lift, I painted that z-lift from top to bottom. At that time it had a counter weight. It must have been a different problem. Today Z Lift is listed as open on www.huntermtn.com. If it was a counter weight it would have taken more than a day to fix.
