It's finally starting to snow again here in the Cascades after a 3 week dry spell. Luckily the ski resorts didn't loose too much snow.

Mt. Bachelor is around 100" right now.

We're on a 28"-38" base here at Mt. Sunapee, though it has snowed off and on all season. Biggest "dump" was about 5 inches last week. No natural terrain is open yet though.

The Lyndon Outing Club in Lyndonville, VT is open on all natural terrain with a 4" packed base with about 60% of their terrain.

Sadly, Minnesota is only open because of snowmaking! So, because we have about 2-3 inches of natural snow in the cities, Kudos to all of the snowmakers out there!

Sugarbush is at 95 inches for the year (Season Ave = 262 inches). None of it from major coastal storms, all from localized snow showers and small alberta clippers. Might have a real coastal storm on tuesday 2/13, that would be the first of the season. The mtn is 100% open, has been so for about 3 weeks now. Natural snow trails have been very thin, but are improving.

In Northern Michigan, we made a nice recovery from the miserable beginning of the season.

Nub's Nob
Up to 75" base
93" of snow season to date

Last week we got a huge lake effect dump. 27" in 3 days, including about 15" of pow that fell all day Friday & overnight.
Last year at this time, we were at about 65" of snow season to date. So we are actually ahead in terms of snow, but 2 feet of that fell early in December then completely melted away the following week.

The natural snow pack is good, the skiing is great, but the skier visits are way down. This past weekend was extremly light. Hopefully we will get a strong Presidents week showing. First it was the warm spell, and now its been the cold that has kept many of the downstate skiers away (not to mention the economy).

What I don't understand is how a ski area can have a 75" base with only 93" of snow. Are you snowmaking all year long? Vail stopped snowmaking before New Years and has been losing base ever since.

Considering this is Northern Michigan, a vast majority of that is due to snowmaking. We stopped making snow about 2 weeks ago, after we recovered from the warm spell and got our base back up to the normal level. In reality we have about a 12"-75" base. There is about a 12" packed base on the non-snowmaking areas, with an average of 3-4 feet on most of the green & blue runs, and the 6-7 feet on the main black runs. This amount of base will easily carry us through the end of season in April, and we'll be done with snowmaking unless we get a melt-down, or need to to some touch-up after an ice/rain storm. Typically our hard shutdown for snowmaking is the first week of March.

204 inches so far at Alta. About 150 inches short of last year's snow fall at this time.

So-Cal is doing well because we are used to operating without natural snow. We have recieved about 30" of natural this year but it was nice to get some before christmas for a change. If we can get some good snow in Feb/March then we will be looking ok. Feb and March are usually our heavier snowfall months. Last year we got 60+" in March but barely saw a flake until then.

We just got 21" here in Lyndonville, VT and it's still coming down hard. Classes were canceled today and may be canceled for tomorrow here at my school. It's going to be really really busy this weekend!
