antique aerial tram conservertors, very cool, I have a lift still operating from 1955.
"Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish—a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow—to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested . . . Res ipsa loquitur (it speaks for it self). Let the good times roll." HT

Mt. Hood Ski Bowl ; Cascade lift(not to be confused with cascade express at mt hood meadows, we coined the name first) originaly installed on the upper bowl in 1955 and moved to the t- bar hill in 1977-78. riblet , 60 hp wound rotor motor, western intermediate gearbox, open ring and pinion final drive, babbit bullwheel driveshaft bearings. All of the electrical was up dated two years ago by me and this lift is nick named "Old Reliable".

So has it been upgraded from the manual speed control to a modern system of buttons? Im sorry for the lack of official terminology. If I remember correctly there were no buttons for controls and was only controled by the manual lever but I could be incorrect about this. I just breifly got to look at it a number of summers ago while at a race camp at timberline. If you have any rescent pictures of cascade I would really like to see them.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

Yes it still has the manual drum controler. This device controls the voltage to the wound rotor of the wound rotor a/c motor. It does this by diverting the the 480 vac through a series of cast iron resistor grids,(reducing the voltage) the number is dependent on the position of the drum control. This gererates heat as a by product, not very efficient. But if it keeps on working with a little maint , go with it. We would really like to replace the drive station entirely instead of upgrading to a dc drive and dc motor. The open ring and pinion is very worn and pitted from more than a half century of use and when we reset the back lash two years ago we were all shaking our heads not believing that it was still servicable. After we adjusted the gears and ran it ,we were astounded at how quiet it was compared to what it had been. The babbit bearings for the BW drive shaft have to greased on a daily basis with moly lube and weekly the grease needs to be cleaned up , yes she might be a maint pig, but she gives back equaly in reliable uphill transportation . Refering to the upgraded electrics, generate a new wiring diagram, mark all of the wires in the instalation, new contactor, new secondary contactor, replace all of the low voltage controls and wiring including all of the tower wiring and a new overhead com/messenger line. Just waiting for the right Riblet to come up for sale to change the drive terminal.

So if you were to upgrade it would it be an upgrade something like multopor?
Thanks for the more detailed description.

Madriver lifts has the Naked lady lift listed for sale. It is a 1981 riblet triple located at Snowmass. From what I know it is in very good shape.

thanks for the info! yes I would like to have it set up like multorpor and move the drive terminal uphill a few yards so the snowmo and sno cat traffic can go behind the lift. it has been a pipe dream of mine to build a surface tow from the parking lot to multorpor lift but the location of cascade lifts drive terminal has prevented this . cascade only runs when the high school race teams are training on week day evenings and is open on the weekend days and nights and later in the season does not run at all due to its remote location in relation to the rest of the hill facilitys. It is kind of sad that this lift does not get utilized more as the terrain is very challanging. if the upper bowl is on wind stand by most people go home instead of coming over and riding this lift which has more black diamond runs than any thing on the rest of the hill. when I ski I usually ski cascade because there are no crowds here and the last of the powder stashes are still untouched.
