There's a disscusion on the Disneyland skyway yahoo group about how the skyway was used as a sidechair befoer Disney bought it? Anyone know of any photos of it in use before Disney bought it? Also they said that side chairs will be gone soon anyone know of any still in use?

I think it would be a nightmare for any winter sports. The contour speed would have to be that of a gondola, you could only get two people on a chair, skiers would have to back up to get into the chair, and it would only work for snowboarders if everyone had the same foot fowards. I am goofy footed, or right foot foward, so if I snowboarded and rode a counter-clockwise rotating side chairlift, I would have to somehow get on and off pushing backwards, or sit facing the chair and hugging it for dear life. That would be the same scenario for someone who is normal footed riding a clockwise rotating chair. But, it seems like a good idea for foot passengers, because they get to see the panoramic scenery, and could walk on and off the lift as if it were a gondola.
