New Order had more hits than just Blue Monday -> so they aren't a one hit wonder in my book.

WOOT. Could you recommend some of their other good songs? I've tested a few samplers on the iTunes store a while back but didn't see much.

For some reason, I'm in the middle of a Billy Talent craving   They aren't that bad at all. I have to say that I like the songs This is How It Goes and Nothing to Lose.

Pearl Jam, Pearl Jam, Pearl Jam, Pete Yorn, Big Head Todd, Death Cab, Guster, Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I've been on a Surf Music (ie Beach Boys) craze lately. I've also been revisting bands I used to listen to when I was a little kid with my father, like Huey Lewis and the News. Its quite a trip down Memory Lane.

Oh you said some magic words there... my all-time favorites are Depeche Mode (been a fan since 84) and the Cure (since 86). Cant get tired of them. Big Country.. I remember them... almost a one hit wonder.

Do you remember The Dream Academy? Life in a Northern Town... another one hit wonder...

Big Country actually had quite a few good songs. They released a "Best of" CD back in 96ish which highlights some of the good songs off each of there CDs (I think they made 5). "Crossroads" is also a good disc. This is the debut CD from 83. It has the song "In a Big Country" which is the only one most people have heard but there is also a song called "Chance" and a very good track called "Ploughman's Overture". There seems to be lots of unique things going on instrument-wise in their music. I read somewhere that it made Stuart Adamson (the lead singer) angry when people said the guitars sounded like bag-pipes. Unfortnately Adamson struggled with depression and alcoholism and committed suicide in 2001. Apparently their farewell tour was completed not long before then.

On the topic of music I just found a great site called pandora.com. You enter your music preferences and they play songs based on your choices, they constantly update based on your ratings of music they play and you save your 'radio station' so that you can listen to it whenever you want. It is a great way to find new music because they play stuff based on what you tell them you like. Also it is free as long as you allow the adds to pop-up, but so what I just minimize it and then open it to look at a good song or something, it is super cool and the best site I have found in a long time.

Another cool site is imeem.com which has full length songs, although some songs have been reduced to only 30 second previews to avoid lawsuits from the RIAA.

cjb You got it right. Pandora is one of the best sites for free music on the net. Just punch in an artist and they play music in that genre, edit the artists you don't like to further refine your station. I dropped them a line to let them know how good I thought their site was and they responded by offering up a free T-shirt, imagine that, free music and clothes. Go figure.
