June Mountain Ski Area will close for the season on Sunday, Jan. 28, because of a lack of snow, resort officials announced on Saturday.
"The three-to-eighteen inch base and the ten trails June Mountain currently has open are no longer providing a quality experience for visitors, forcing resort operators to make this difficult decision," said resort spokesperson Dana VanderHouwen.
She said people holding season passes for June Mountain will be taken at Mammoth for the rest of the season.
She said there is no chance of the resort re-opening.
"The late snowfall this season, coupled with the fact that most employees will likely leave the area, means June will not re-open this season, even if there is a radical improvement in the snow conditions."

Has anyone been up there this season? That's really too bad, it looks like a fun place

Due to unusually light snowfall this season, June Mountain ski operations will close for the season after the lifts close today.
Effective Monday, January 29, 2007 through the remainder of the season, all June Mountain season passes will be honored at Mammoth Mountain.
Mammoth Mountain currently has a 3-4 foot base of packed powder and excellent conditions on expertly groomed runs.

How about a mini ice age instead?

It wouldn't be the first mini ice age. The "Little Ice Age" lasted sporadically between the 1300's and 1850 throughout Europe. Won't help June much, but at least somebody has something good to look forward to.
