Just a quick question for all you lift techs out there: I was riding on an older Poma triple a few years back and swinging my feet a little bit with the hope that some warmer blood might get down into them before my next run. When I reached the top, I was verbally reprimanded by the lift op (a bit harshly), because he said that my swinging feet would "bend the rope." I thought that it was a bit silly as the cable was already bending quite a bit just to make it around the bullwheel, but I honestly don't know. Was this guy just on a power trip, or have I been severly damaging lifts in the name of warmer feet? Please advise...

Keep your feet warm. He was full of it.
Make sure, however, that you do not "swing" the chair as that can cause other kinds of problems.

I agree with Janek. Keep your feet movin'. However, if you swing your feet too much, the chairs in front and behind yours will bounce causing an uplifting event in the cable. Yes, it can derope the lift. Swinging can do the same due to side to side motion.

Bending the rope???? What kind of sh :censored2: **

Thanks for the input. The chair certianly wasn't swinging or bouncing... the guy must have just been bored watching people unload from an amazingly slow lift. Am glad that I can keep my feet warm, too

Most likely he had been on the job at least a day and a half, you should listen to those with that kind of experience, I do.

Naw, he must have been one of those tired, all-used-up lift operators that wished he had a job at McDonald's rather than a 'stupid ski resort'. Dipwad.

I can't blame the operator...Mcdonalds pays more in this region than lifties. Lifties are the lowest paid people in the area and are expected to be pleasant. Why should they? They are yelled by skiers at all day and do not make enough $$$ to even buy a beer after work.

There are three roads to ruin; women, gambling and technicians. The most pleasant is with women, the quickest is with gambling, but the surest is with technicians. Georges Pompidou
