Tenney Mountain ski area closes

PLYMOUTH, N.H. The Tenney Mountain ski area in Plymouth (New Hampshire) is closing this winter to give itself more time to expand the resort.

Operations Manager Joel Bourassa says it was a decision by the ski area's new owners, All-American Plazas, which bought Tenney Mountain in February.

Bourassa said the new owners want to move forward this winter with their expansion plans without being disturbed by the day-to-day operations of the ski resort.

The ski area originally was to open on December 22nd. Plans now are to reopen next season. A small number of employees will be kept on in the meantime.

Bourassa said about 180 season pass holders will get refunds. He also said the Loon and Ragged mountain ski areas are offering passholders deals for their season passes.

What are their plans for expansion? Are they adding terrain? Lifts? Lodging? Or what?

They started last summer dismantling the summit lift in preparation for a high speed quad. They took off the chairs and haul rope and never got it back together this fall. I don't think there would be too much terrain expansion involved. Hopefully the high speed quad will come this summer.

"Being disturbed?" I thought day-to-day operations were what a ski area was all about. That's a funny way to put things.
