Journalists Flown to Utah to Ski for Free for One Day

You've heard Utah's ski industry motto, "The Greatest Snow on Earth." Well, here's another phrase that the resorts would like everyone to remember: "The Most Accessible Snow on Earth"!

Here is an assignment that I would like to have. Come into the office, and be told to fly to another state, ski at two resorts, and then come home the same day, and get paid for it! Four newspaper writers did that in Utah today!

Before noon, Barry Warsch, who writes for several newspapers in Florida was skiing with colleague Brian Clark, who's from Wisconsin. They were joined by John Newlin from the Bay area and Brian Metzler from Colorado.

This was an experiment by Ski Utah to show that Utah's slopes are very accessible from anywhere.

This is bragging really. The Utah ski industry wants to show how easy it is to come and ski here, and it's brought in four writers to spread the word across the country. And by their initial reactions, the write-ups ought to be good!

John Newlin, Editor, The Wave Magazine: "Oh it's fantastic! Especially from the Bay Area because you can just wake up at five in the morning, throw on your snowboarding pants and hop on a plane."

Brian Metzler who writes for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver said "Beats work!"

Colorado and Utah are fierce competitors as far as their respective ski industries go, but it's clear, Metzler, who lives in Boulder, will give Utah high marks!

Brian Metzler, Rocky Mountain News: "I've never had a bad day here in Utah, and I say that honestly, because I've had some really great times here. I don't think I've ever gotten skunked here--and it's a beautiful too."

All four of these writers sort of chuckled when they talked about this day being an actual "work day"-- after all, it was all free!

Brian Clark, Wisconsin Free Lance Writer: "So it's pretty good…Yeah. I'm still pinching myself."

Barry Warsch, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl: "I never realized how easy it was for how easy it is for the entire country to spend the afternoon skiing in Utah and then go home, it's amazing."

The writers skied Alta and Snowbird today. Tonight, they'll all be back home and they'll begin writing their stories about their day of WORK in Utah!
