Well guys now that I have some time I will post my Trip Report from Idlewild.

So here goes. Me and my buddy left Denver Friday morning. We headed out on i-70 and stopped in Idaho Springs for Lunch. After lunch while going over Beathoud Pass at the top I blow a fuse in my car. And that Fuse happened to cover all my gauges. I did not worry about it until I got back to denver. So Anyway I stop at 7-11 in the Town of Winter Park to get some drinks for the hike. Spent 3 bucks there. AFter that I punched the Idlewild Ski area into my GPS and followed the directons for it. 3 mins later we are the base of the chairlift. I get out and change into my snowboard boots. We go up to the double chair and take a close look at it. It appears to be in good shape. From there we hiked up the lift line taking alot of pics / making notes of odd things. About half way up we this tree that has fallen onto the line. But it did not derail :(. Wlel anyway the Floating bullwheel is freaky.

From the top we hiked down one of the ski trails over to the Poma. While we were walking around the Poma we saw this moose playing with the poma.

All in all I think this ski area would of been a great place to ski at. It sucks that a housing area will be built there.

:cursing: AFter the hike we go back to my car to find that it had sank in the SNOW!!!! :cursing: We tried everything we could think of to getting it out. But ended up having to call AARP to come winch me out. Only problem is none of the AARP contract people would come out. So I had to pay 85 bucks for Holly Hooker Tow service to come pull us out.

So this trip costed a total of 94.00 + 6 gallons of Diesel Fuel.

It was fun for the person that did it. I dont like climbing towers without being harassed. He loves to climb.

Sounds like an interesting trip, thanks for posting the photos, I'm sorry it ended up costing you so much.
I agree with your opinion about the housing project being built there. I was hoping maybe Winter Park would aquire it and build the gondola to connect Idlewild and Winter Park. There is plenty of space back there to build a parking garage (in the former parking lot) and it is walking distance from many of the condos. They could have built a parking garage, refurbished the lodge, replaced the chairlift with a FGT (no bigger to avoid slope congestion), repaired the platter, and constructed the gondola to originate next to Idlewild's chairlift and end at the base of Winter Park's Looking Glass and Olympia lifts (this would spread out the early morning Winter Park base traffic). Looking Glass would then probably need to be upgraded to FGQ or HSQ.
There was once rumour years ago ('91 ish) about Winter Park purchasing Idlewild but it must not have been true. Too bad, so much for hoping.
Anyone know the time frame for removing all of Idlewild's equipment?

How close is Winter Park to Ski Idlewild? I thought they were about 10 miles apart but they way it sounds, they are much closer.

Yea, that's what I thought but this thread was making me think the two were a lot closer.
