I'd say CTEC survived, even though they're part of Doppelmayr now, besides the line gear, they seem to be running the show at DoppelmayrCTEC

This is a quote from one of our sr mechs "doppelmayr bought ctec out of sympathy". He suggested that doppelmayr wasnt interested in buying ctec. He said that ctec went to doppelmayr. I have no idea if this is fact or fiction but it sounds pretty crazy.
He also said doppelmayr still isnt interested in the north american market. his reasoning was the fact that doppelmayr still uses the old ctec office to run north american operations (salt lake city).

can anyone confirm or deny this?

This is false from what I can tell.

When Doppelmayr purchased Garaventa in 2001, this created Doppelmayr CTEC here in North America because Garaventa and CTEC had already merged in 1993. Maybe Doppelmayr bought Garaventa because of sympathy but I doubt that's true also.

I think it's safe to say the purchase was to extend the reach of Doppelmayr. They now have a larger customer base and hence they sell more parts. I believe now that if you want a fixed grip from Doppelmayr, you get a CTEC, if you want a detach you get a Doppelmayr out of St. Jerome. We built a fg double in 2004(cliff) it is Dopp line gear, chairs and grips(we got this because we spec'd it). Both stations are pure CTEC, right down to the bushed guide sheave. I don't think we could have gotten Doppelmayr terminals very easily.

It is possible that when doppelmayr bought out Garaventa, they wanted the european part of the company but didn't want to take over the garaventa CTEC branch of the company. Perhaps this is why It is called Doppelmayr CTEC instead of just Doppelmayr? I dunno but if someone told me that doppelmayr didn't want to take over CTEC, I might believe them (if they are able to present the right facts).

like i said he sounded a bit crazy but i think he would agree with you skiersage. He said that the north american market is a very very small part of their world wide business, so they really dont focus on north america.

Here is a few questions i'll throw out. In north america its called doppelmayrCTEC, in europe is it doppelmayr-garaventa? and say in austrailia whats the company called? Then when doppelmayr sells a FG lift in europe is it a ctec design, full doppelmayr, or a mix? And do they sell garaventa-ctec designed hs lifts?

CTEC has no presence in the European operation. Australia seems to get its Doppelmayr lifts from Europe as well. I have heard that Doppelmayr CTEC will drop CTEC from its name within a few years. In Europe it is called the Doppelmayr Garaventa Group. In Australia, it is Doppelmayr Australia Ltd. Garaventa seems to build some detachables in France and Italy, while Doppelmayr makes the ones in Austria. Garaventa, however, makes all trams including those here in North America.
