yea, i think they run it at the highest capicity possible. Even with all that, it still gets 30 minute lines on weekends. It will need to be replaced soon with an 8 or 12 person one.

Some installations namely the Outback @ keystone and Eagle @ marmot have simplified terminals similar to some leintner terminals and have only the accel/decel carriges covered with the bull wheel fully exposed in the center. these are i beleive similar in age to the backside express.

Brighton's Crest Express (early 90's?) has this too

I forget, when was Lookout built?

Lookout was opened on January 20, 2000.

The gondola will not be replaced, but a seperate Six pack will run from the village to big springs.

oh man, northstar is gonna suck. Are they planning on fixing the other lifts? With the gondola and echo, the lines are bad enough, another 6 will create some of the worst lines ever.

I can believe it- Northstar's layout appears to funnel everyone back to the base area, which creates crowds.

I agree with you. Northstar may indeed suck. Even if they succeed in their goal of redistributing people throughout the mountain, powder days will be 15 minutes long.

I believe that I have already explained what I gather their long-term plan is elsewhere on the forum.

yes, that is true. There will be a few spots on the mountain still good for powder. Parts that people dont usually go to as it is now.

Another of the grips. Any ideas which one this is?

You are looking at a double DS grip; that's the one with bellville washers making up the spring pack.

The lower terminal is amost of unique design (same as bearpaw 100 feet to the right). The lift is a vault drive, and the entire drive slides and is pulled back by a hydrolic piston. I am guessing it was originally a counterweight and yan added the piston to give more space.

That's probably a good guess. That's a Riblet, though- did Yan add the hydraulic tension, or did Riblet? They built several of that design in the late 60s, before they went to the overhead design for combined drive-and-tension.

i think the lifts were built in 72. I am pretty sure yan added the hyrdolic tensioning.

That would make sense because Yan put in Rendezvous.

Yan did a lot of retrofits- I've even seen a Riblet with a Yanbox drive terminal (chair 12 at Vail), so I'm not surprised.

The grip is a Doppelmayrgrip, but they were buildt by von Roll, Bern because the copyright of this grip was by von Roll. The grip's name was VR 102. They were buildt for Doppelmayr until 1984 or 1985, I think, but von Roll changed they already in 1981 (for Doppelmayr, they buildt a edit version) !

System Doppelmayr, I think also buildt by VR.

(Please excuse my bad English, but I'm not a native speaker.)

at first i thought it looked different, but now i see it is the same as the gondola's. So if they were built between 81-85 that means the gondola is coming up on 20 years soon if it hasnt already.
