The lower terminal. When this lift comes to a stop, it makes some funny sounds

Judging from the length & number of carriers, the funny sounds are probably the carriage moving. You should hear YAN carriages move... especially the ones with link chains (as opposed to roller chains like found on a bike)

The lower terminal of Backside Express. I forget what year it was built, probably 94. I will check on it later. This entire terminal has northing in it except the tyres and their motor. Talk about wasted space. Not even the bullwheel is in it

so where is the bullwheel?

The tires don't have motors. They are powered either off the Haul rope with special sheaves called Power Take Off (PTO) sheaves - or off the bullwheel shaft, which is the case on the flyer at Copper I believe. So there's lots of extra room in that terminal :) Unless the tensioning unit is in there.

That looks an awful lot like the bottom of I-lift. Yeah, there's wasted space, but you need the room for accel/decel and for the carriage to move. I assume this is a top drive lift and that you're referring to the hydraulic pump unit when you talk about the motor- that vintage lift has virtually no room in the drive end, what with the massive gearbox, the electic motor, the diesel stand-by engine, and other peripheral junk.

Some installations namely the Outback @ keystone and Eagle @ marmot have simplified terminals similar to some leintner terminals and have only the accel/decel carriges covered with the bull wheel fully exposed in the center. these are i beleive similar in age to the backside express.
