Cataloochee NC.....rocking the ski world in the East ...... AGAIN

first to open in the East last year......and looks like this year too...

They were the first ski resort to open in the east, and the last to close in North Carolina and as if that wasn't good enough, they are going to "one-up" themselves by opening this Saturday.

from skinc.com

"We're going to make snow Thursday and Friday nights and then open at 8:30am Saturday morning, November 4, 2006 with two slopes operating for skiers and snowboarders", reported Tammy Brown. She added, "You guys are number one with us and we wanted you to be the first to know."

Why does it say that they are going to open November 24th on their website?

Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

We are opening this weekend at Tyrol Basin as well in Wisconsin. We had a slope open this past weekend with 4 rails and hiking only. We had a huge crowd. But the temps have been good to us this week and we are blowing right now for a Saturday and Sunday. Tis the season to work 80 hours a week again.

Today, it was 57 degrees at Cataloochee Ski Area, and raining. But the Beginner's Easy Way Triple Chairlift was running, and people were actually skiing. The Hall double and CTEC Quad and magic Carpet lifts were high and dry. I also learned they are expanding and updating the lodge, and in the next couple of years they are going to add about 10,000 Square feet to the lodge. I also included a map and a trail map.
