i just got back from a trip to magic mtn to take some pics. Did anyone know they are putting in a new chair?? it is going to go just over halfway up. The towers are in place and the lift mech said they should be stringing the rope in 1 or two weeks after they lift the drive carriage onto the station. I talked to the PR guy and told him I was taking pics for skilifts.org and he let me take the pics. I also e-mailed him to see if he'd let me take some other pics when the construction continues. Unfortunatly all I have if a non-digital camera so when I finish the roll i'll get the pics developed on disk and upload them to the site.

Magic has been working on that chair for a couple of years now. They just haven't had the funding to make it happen. This year, they have finally been able to raise the capital to do some more improvements to hopefully open the place a little sooner with more reliable snow conditions as well as put some more into that lift. It was originally the Betwixt lift from Stratton (a Borvig) that Magic bought when they took it out to build the American Express 6 pack in 1995 I believe. The new name for it is the Pheonix lift and it's supposed to service primarily intermediate and beginner terrain, in order to help give a easier step up in learning options coming from the beginner area.
Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.
