Hey guys,
When I went to Lake Louise 2 years ago, a few things came to my mind.

Why is the Top of the World a HSS and not a HSQ like the Glacier Express? I know the capacities are supposedly the same but was this more of a marketting move or was there some other logical meaning to it?

Now that the Olympic Chair is no longer running, is it a reasonable idea that they may put a gondola from the base to the summit? Although Ive ridden the platter and found it Ok for riding, a lot of people are scared or dislike surface lifts because of the increased strain on the legs on the way up.

Would it also make sense if they eventually replaced the Ptarmigan FGQ with a HSQ?

And Finally, does anyone know when LL plans to build the new Richardson Ridge Lift and clear that terrain? Anybody know what type of lift will be used?

Any thoughts?

I think that one of the reasons that many resorts still use surface lifts like LL for more advanced terrain access is that not only is that area at LL very suceptible to wind but also it deters skiers who attempt to ski too far ablove their ability from getting on the more difficult runs. For me I think that the platter access is fine and shouldn't be replaced with a chair but it takes alot less to keep me happy on the mountain than it does for many. Is Olympic now not being used at all? When I was there the year before last it seemed that it hadn't been run for a while but the ramps and mazes looked as though they had been maintained so that it could be used if required.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

I am assuming the Olympic is no longer being used because it no longer appears on the 2007 trail maps. I don't have a problem with the platter either, although I am sure they will replace it someday. With another platter? Who knows.

Olympic may not be run for the public, likely it'll still be used for competition purposes.

Thats what I was kinda assuming based on its name too. It would also seems that it could be suitable as a back-up lift.
