Here's some general info and problem/solutions. My contribution to the technical section. For springboxes with brake pads & flyweights, as opposed to hydraulic units.

Problem: Springbox retracts way to fast
Things that will happen if this isn't fixed:
T over haul rope - leading to derailment (possibly of return sheave).
Solutions: Take springbox off line - remove extra oil on brake pads.
Take springbox off - replace brake pads that have worn too thin.

Springbox has no start off cusioning.
Causes people to fall and excessive wear on box components, usually goes hand in hand with fast retraction.
Take springbox off line - remove oil/replace pads.

T hangs low coming around bullwheels/through towers (Or will not retract all the way)
Causes T to get caught in terminal structures.
Take box off line, check towing cord length - cut back to proper length.
If it is the right length, retension springbox by turning spring housing clockwise.

T will not pull down.
Causes customers to get hit in head with T, and plenty of frustration to lifties, as you can literally hang off it with your full weight and it will not come down.
Take box off line, check for stuck brakes/tangled towing cord/broken brake return spring/equalizer lever.

T retracts too slow.
Causes safety gate to get tripped and flung off into the distance & buried in snow, making it hard to locate.
Oil brake pads through port provided.

T will not retract at all.
Causes safety gate trip & tangling in terminals/towers.
Take box off line and replace the 10 meter long coil spring inside.

All T's at the top terminal are on the ground in the morning, and won't retract.
Rime. Once this happens the box fills with rime & freezes. Clean off T's & towing cord. Hang out on a tower stopping each box at the tower and beat on them with mallet until it free's up and retracts.

Springbox hangs crooked.
Rope Twist or incorrectly position hanger arm to springbox mounting bolts.
Causes the springbox to violently contact the hold down ring & come out swinging.
Rope twist: Loosen grip & retourque so it's hangning right.
mounting bolds: take box off line and mount correctly in the right holes.
