The highest I rode:
1- Soleil, Tremblant
2- The triple, St.-Bruno
3- White chair, Mt.-Habitant
The highest I saw:
1- The tram Dave posted in the steepest lift forum
2- A double chair that I don't know the name, Val d'Isère: pic

2nd: Olympic Chair at Lake Louise
3rd:Probably the scary old Doppelmayr chair Le Soleil at Tremblant

A counterweight tram somewhere in austria. It had no supports, and it drops of this enormous cliff and way down into the valley below, it doesnt need supports as the ground is along ways down! 5star kool tram. Completely in the alpine!

For me:
1) Knob Chair @ Marmot (middle section over the knob bowl all who have encounteredd this section will agree that it is scary!)
2) Banff Gondola (Mid tower) (also not a "ski lift")
Ones i have seen:
The last section on the Glacier bus 3 in Hintertux runs from a ridge over a sizable valley and looks rather high up.

chair 9 at loveland...it is the highest 'chairlift' in the world. the only lift that beats it is a rope tow somewhere in south america...but that doesn't really count!

I thought chair 9 was the highest in North America, and that Portillo had a double that went higher (13,000' or so).
As far as highest off the ground, mine would be the Peak at Whistler, especially the last 20 metres before the top.

that's true...what i was saying is that the one in chile is a surface lift...hence chair 9 is the highest 'chairlift' in the world
