I know of one Scenic Chairlift in Franklin, NC off of US441, which is a scenic PBH/Hall Double chairlift that was built in 1965, and was in a PBH/Hall Advertisement, from 1966 and back then, it was called Gold Mountain Chairlift, and it provided acess to the spanish village on the top of Gold Mountain. Today, it is still there, Without the chairs, only cable. Today, it is reffered to as the Gold City Chairlift. Does anyone else know about any other scenic chairlifts?, Not Including the one to be built at Wolf Laurel/Wolf Ridge Ski Resort.

The Wolf Laurel/Wolf Ridge Scenic Double Chairlift will be built in 2007, along with two new ski Runs.

Here in Oregon we have a scenic PHB Hall gondola that runs up the Wallowa Mountain range in Eastern, Oregon. The gondola was built to bring in tourist into the area and some day build an actual ski area there. The ski area has never been built to this day but I guess the gondola is quite popular. However, I believe in the winter there are two ski runs at the top of the mountain which you can ski down and there is also a big cross country skiing area up at the top too. I've been meaning to check it out one of these days but it's so far to go.

Skier, you should try to check it out on your way back from Sun Valley.

Elitch's Gardens Amusment Park, Denver,CO had a PBH/Hall Scenic Double Chairlift, that looked like half of a Gondola car, which was removed.

Ghost Town Amusment Park in Maggie Valley, NC had a 1960's Calvero Savio Double that Brought you to the Park. It had Lattice Towers, and was modified by Doppelmayr in 1980's, and it has vintage Doppelmayr Chairs. The Park closed in 2002, but the lift is still there, but not in operation. It probably could still run.

A few comments about scenic chairlifts:

1. The one at Elitch Gardens had plastic chairs that looked like old-fashioned (50's) kitchen chairs. My sources say they were built by an amusement ride company. This was common before ski lift companies started building amusement park (chair) rides just a few years ago.

2. There is a scenic chair in Gatlinburg, NC.

3. There was one at Raton Pass, CO but it is long gone. Brad (of course) has pix of the remnants.

4. There is a chair in Daytona Beach, FL would survived a hurricane a few years back.

5. There is a chair in Santa Cruz, CA

6. There is a PORTABLE (wow!) chairlift which operates at the county fair at Del Mar (near San Diego).

7. There are (and were) many more - if I dug out my lists.

8. My records indicate that the ski area at HIGH WALLOWAS (Joseph, OR) did operate for a few seasons. Started with just the gondola. Added two Mitey Mites in 1981. Closed in 1984.

a few 'odd balls'"(non-ski) ive seen are: OceanSide NJ (Borvig), Mammoth Cave area KY: 1 riblet for a alipine slide area, and 1 'mystery lift' at a tourist trap just off the freeway exit there. , and the MN state fair grounds has a Von Roll Gondola that crosses the property. Also a amusement ride in the Mt Rushmore area of SD.

There's a good few here in Colorado. Heritage Square has a Hall double for an alpine slide, Water World has a Yan pulsed gondola, Glenwood Caverns in Glenwood Springs has a new pulsed gondola made by Poma in '02 I think. There's a tram in Estes Park, and one somewhere on Monarch Pass, I think. And, I remember seeing a dillapidated FG Gondola at the entrance to Moab, Utah. I don't think it has ever run.

Of course I love skilifts too, which is why I'm here. I'd like to learn more about them and maybe work in the Ski industry later on in life.

Let it snow.

I was just in Santa Cruz yesterday and went to the boardwalk for the day. The chairlift there goes along the boardwalk and has 4 towers. I didn't ride it just because it goes so slow that i'd prefer to walk.

Trees of Mystery, Skytrail, Klamath Falls, CA
2001 Poma pulse gondola, pretty short, but a strange little tourist trap.
One of the spans has an interesting evac system, similar to a rescue car on a tram, but for just one span, it only brings you to a tower which still must be down climbed by the guest.

You can't forget Senic World, in the Blue mountains, Australia
They have the new Senic Skyway tram with glass floor that goes from frosted to clear as you go out over the aprox 200m canyon. They also have the senic skyway(previously the scenisender)

The lift at Elitch Gardens was definatly a f/g Hall with chairs similar to those in the pic from Santa Cruz. It was one of my favorite rides before I was tall enough to ride the roller coasters. If I remember correctly, it was relocated to Elitch's new location but was then removed completely a few years later. There is also a Hall in Old Forge, NY at the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari. Each chair is modeled after a hot air baloon! The return terminals on both of these chairs were/are located high above the ground and passengers ride the whole lift in both directions.

Here's a link to the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari website. You can see the lift behind Paul Bunyan.

Terry Peak, SD installed a Ringer double in '53 or '54 as a scenic lift. After one year of operation they decided the terrain beneath the lift, which offered a bit over 1000 vertical rise, was suitable for skiing.
Imagine that?
There was a chair lift on the north end of the butte that's just north of downtown Jackson, WY. It didn't last long due to an accident that occured in mid '60's.
