One of my favorite lifts is TGV @ Tremblant. I think its the fastest I've been on, has anyone else been on faster ones?

I have a movie of it here TGV

Also, is it just me or are the Poma quads really loud and make clickety clank sounds the entire way up

Welcome to the board, Skitheeast. :)
The TGV has Poma's TB-41 grip on it, and yes, it does make noise on the way up. What you're hearing is the two coil springs banging against each other and against the U-bolts which hold them in tension. If you ride a newer Poma with the Omega grip, you'll notice they are MUCH quieter.

wierd how the faster lifts out there are poma's. I wonder why doppelmayr doesnt build theirs to go faster.

Dopelmayr does build their lifts to go faster, but most areas seem to run them slower. I-lift (1994 UNI-G) is capable of running 5.5 m/s, which is 1083 FPM. I think all newer Doppelmayrs are capable of running at least that, and I've seen in the World Book where some run at 6.0 (1181).

Dave,

Cameron backordered issues that had the specs in them. Also if they are Dopps and were built between 94 - 99, I have the specs on on .pdf.

Actually it's just an issue that covers how many lifts each manufacturer built and how many lifts they built each year. However, it does have some other good lifts and information in the issue.

Yes, Doppelmayr's can run 1100 ft per minute and just as fast as the TGV.

I believe a lift can physically run faster than that - when they were installing the Gondola at Big White - they had it up at around 8 m/s during testing.

Nice. Chairlifts can run at about any speed you want them to, as long as the comfort level of the passengers isn't exceeded. This means that the faster you go, the longer the terminals must be in order to keep acceleration and deceleration rates at a manageable and comforable level.

Yeah apparently the guys from Leitner were making the Big White owners nervous :)
