VAIL - Vail Mountain has lost one lift and won approval for a new one.

Within days of removing aging Chair 1, Vail Mountain has gained approval from the U.S. Forest Service for a new lift in West Lionshead.

The new lift would go from West Lionshead to the bottom of the Pride Express Lift, and would be a centerpiece for the planned development of the West Lionshead area.

The Forest Service said the new lift will help accommodate the increasing number of people who will head up the mountain from Lionshead.

The best place for the base of the lift is the old Amoco station, the Forest Service found in its environmental assessment, released in March.

Heres a map of this I think

DoppelmayrCTEC prepaired a bid proposal last summer for the lift, it was going to be a gondola because there is not going to be any ski acces to the bottom terminal

That would be interesting. Would there be parking at the base?

Thats interesting. Lionshead seems pretty well served. I hope there is parking down there or it seems like and odd place to put a lift.

There is going to be a lot of real estate development down there. Why else do ski areas put in lifts these days?

Nope, Lots of build-out, and with that the free employee lot goes away. :cursing:

Theres currently 85 Free parking spots in Vail (135 on weekends), the nearest other free parking thats legal parking is in Avon. When they get busy they will open up the frontage roads for free parking but thats very seldom and usualy only on the hollidays, but its still a good trek in ski boots.
