In the surrounding ten days the tram tower is scheduled to be erected.
Image shows tower "lower section" and base bolts.

Here are some links to images of the spiffy new tower and terminals

Development Costs
The Oregonian – April 16
With the aerial tram costs rising to $57 million, OHSU executives have promoted their willingness to pull out their checkbook yet again, digging deep for another $9.5 million to get the tram flying, they say.
"OHSU has stepped up -- again -- and offered to provide a substantial share of the new funding even though we aren't legally obligated to do so," Steve Stadum, an Oregon Health & Science University executive, said in a statement this month.
What hospital executives haven't been so public about is that more than half of the money will come from city coffers…

The tower, cabins, and stations are so specialized which is why it costs so much. I don't understand why they need to have "flying bubble" cabins and a graceful looking tower. I am amazed that it actually is getting built.

I think a normal looking aerial tram would have looked better.

I think that it's great that someone is making an effort to make such a visible lift look good. so many lifts are all about function and not looking good. It does have the disadvantage of costing more, but it will help give portland a recognizable symbol.

I think the tower is very beautifully designed. I am curious to see the cross arms.

I don't think there is a crossarm. The tower is so wide that the guides are mounted right on the tower. That is what I think I remember.

Does anyone know what that small basket was for that they always had to adjust?

It appears that they were cleaning debris from the track ropes. They did the inside one on the way up and the outside one on the way down. You can see a shot of the "build up" just before they get to the tower. The bucket is to catch the excess buildup that is ejected by the cleaner and keep it from falling to the ground.
