We've talked at length about the way chairlifts run, how they break, and their sexier parts like grips. But most of our winter as mechanics is spent on preventative maintenance. Here is my current project on the Flyer; I'm sure others like James and Allan are doing similar programs as well.

400-hour terminal service
-grease all cadence drive shafts
-grease both bullwheels
-grease the high-speed shaft
-double-check the rope-to-rail measurements and adjust as needed
-check the 'parachute' safety valves on the tension rams (these are what would lock the rams in place in the even of a major hydraulic hose rupture)
-check critical bolts for tightness

600-hour grip service
-grease mobile jaw axle, compression roller (that's the small one on top of the mobile jaw), and chair head axle
-inspect traction plate, principal rollers, and lateral rollers for tightness
-inspect grips springs
-check bail-to-hanger bolt (the Jesus bolt, as in 'Jesus, that's all that's holding us up??)

Of course, since none of these items can be performed while the lift is running, I'm getting lots of OT right now (and cold dinners as well :crying: )

Too bad that the flyer does have a carrier parking rail, then you could take a few chairs off in the day time and work on those.

BTW, are you getting any pictures of this wonderful work in progress? :photo:

We'll start our mid winter checks soon too....I'll get all our checks out of one of our binders and post everything we do. We aren't assigned to a certain lift, we get to move everyday so we kinda share the task of mid winters on every lift.

We don't have detachables - so we don't get a lot of the fun stuff like you :)

We DO have...

Grip retorque
B/W Grease
Hanger Head grease
Motor Greasing
Pillow Block greasing (Red Chair)
U-Joint inspection (T-Bar)
Carriage roller inspection
Grip Inspection
Carrier Inspection

Sure there's some more too :)

I get to rebuild a springbox tomorrow, too :)

I also forgot

Measure haul rope tucks
Measure haul rope diameter at three separate locations
Check bullwheel liner

They Flyer does have a parking rail, but it's kind of directly over where boarders like to strap in. They tend to run smack into the chair if it's hanging there :stretcher: As far as pictures go- I'm taking the camera in to work today, but there's really nothing to take pictures of just yet as all I'm currently doing is greasing.

-grease high-speed shaft and check mounting bolt torque. There is a second shaft like this one between the diesel engine and the gearbox.
