Ok, anyone know of new lifts for next Summer? Here are a few possible ones:

1 Crystal Mountain, Washington DoppelmayrCTEC Triple Northway
2 Tamarack, Idaho DoppelmayrCTEC High Speed Quad
3 Whistler, British Columbia DoppelmayrCTEC High Speed Quad Crystal Express
4 Lookout Pass, Idaho Double Northstar
5 Beaver Creek, Colorado DoppelmayrCTEC High Speed Quad Rose Bowl
6 Burke Mountain, Vermont Leitner-Poma High Speed Quad Willoughby Express

Both Crystal Mountain and Whistler are starting their trams, but they are 2 year projects.

I haven't heard anything about Crystal Chair at Blackcomb. That chair has been on the replacement list for 10 years now and nothing has happened. It isn't likely to unless there is a major shift in planning in the next 6 months. (note: major planning shifts seem to occur about every month here :wacko2: ) We just upgraded the electrical systems on it 2 years ago and this year it's getting a gearbox rebuild, safety upgrades to the chairs (gussets), and bullwheel bearings.

As for the tram, it apparently isn't a done deal yet. We'll have to wait and see. We will be starting an upgrade on the Village Gondola next year. It's a 2 year project with 2 short shutdowns.

Alta I think got the last two Stealth terminals because another resort might have bought them but cancelled the order.

Are you doing the same thing Aspen did to theirs this spring, with terminal rebuilds/tire turnarounds and control mods?

The controls were done in '98. Next year is replacement of motors, gearbox and station mechanicals. (Transfer chain is going, to be replaced with tyres) 2008 is cabins, hangers and redoing the station floors to accommodate the new cabin height.

Treble Cone ski area NZ has announced plans for a gondola (will be the first in NZ) to connect the resort to the valley floor. They said it will be about a 10 min ride much shorter than the 30+min drive currently required to reach the resort. Estimated price on the lift is $20,000,000. It seems the resort has spent the last few years acquiring all the leases along the alignment.

Where did you find that?

That is really awesome, I can't wait for it to be fully built out. Looks like the vertical will increase! Does anybody know about the types of lifts that the new lifts will be?

Piccolo is flying the last concrete this week. We've had some trouble arranging a heavy lift helicopter for the project due to the fire danger in this part of BC.

Lots of concrete to pour - about 150 m cubed. Lower road is in although we're getting in shape with the 40 minute hike to the top from Harmony unload!

I'm not sure what Doppelmayr's schedule is. Obviously there is still concrete to fly and I haven't seen the towers arrive in town yet so it won't be too soon. I think the concrete needs to cure for at least a couple of weeks before tower installation. Whats really interesting is that this is almost a stealth project. I've been wanting to go out and take some pictures but it would be almost 3 hours on an ATV to travel out there, take photos and ride back. You can't just stop by for a look on your way to somewhere.

By the looks of this map, Mont Ripley is looking into another chairlift for the far right side of the mountain. I don't know when this will be as to whether it will be next year or not. But it is something to look for in the coming year(s).

It was suggested earlier in the topic that Big Sky might be looking into replacing its Gondola with a new one or possibly a HSQ. Although the gondola is a bit worse for wear since it is mainly used in the summer (even then I think the lifts are used more often if I remember correctly) and only on very busy times in the winter it doesn't see to terribly much use so unless Big Sky is hoping to better utilize it I would highly doubt that they would spend such a high amount of money on a new gondola. Also if they did want to replace it with a HSQ I find this quite odd in that they already have a HSQ (Swift Current) that runs paralel to and serves the exact same terrain as the gondola.
I think that the more likely route for Big Sky would be to modernize various other areas of the resort such as Shedhorn or the Moose triple. But as I haven't heard anything on that front it may very well be that they are planning a replacement for the gondola.

The gondola was redone in both 1997 and 2000, so I can't imagine it being replaced. I would have to think that Shedhorn is up next for replacement. On another note, I heard that an area on the backside of Lone Peak was leased to BS from YC for skiing next season. I think it was called "Texas" or "Oklahoma" or something like that. I don't think any new lifts are involved, but new terrain.

Also Spanish Peaks plans to build a lift from the bottom of Southern Comfort to the top of Lone Moose in the next couple years. YC is going to build the Eglise gondola, and Moonlight has new lifts on the table as well.
