I'll have my mom look into it. (She works up there)

If it's like their other "planned" lifts, it may take a while, which is fine by me! They usually like to pay for stuff with cash, so tearlier this year may not have been too good to them for that.

So, finally found out the scoop on the progress of this project. Its not happening this summer due to the lackluster start to the season this year. BUT, trail widening and summer "grooming" are still happening. Blasting to re-grade the entire Sterling liftline to an intermediate run will most likely happen next summer (summer 08) with a remote possibility of the dopp six pack going in after that (meaning summer 08 or 09) Gotta love friends in high places for the lowdown....

Where is it going? Richardson's Ridge or Wolverine Ridge? I can't find anything on their site yet. Quad, Triple?

Haha! I was wondering about the replacement of the Summit Chair at Silver Star thinking it wasnt going to happen because of all the other lifts. Silver Star suprises us again with SILVER QUEEN II

Yes, the rumours are true - Silver Star is installing a new chairlift. The area was logged 2 years ago for re-alignment and now the Silver Queen is getting a facelift and a relocation at the same time! Replacing the old lift is a Doppelmayr CTEC 4 CLF Fixed Grip “Unistar” quad (the same as Alpine Meadows). The top station is in same location as the old lift; the bottom is approx 140m west of the present location. Guests will be able to ski to it from Parking Lot E and the new Silver Star Road overpass that will provide access from the Ridge Development. Scheduled completion of this exciting new lift is September 15, 2007.

New Lift:
Slope Length 510m
Vertical Rise 86m
1800 pph initial capacity, 55 chairs running at 2.3m/s
Bottom drive (electric with 75% APU diesel back-up)

Old Lift:
Slope 509m
Vertical 75m
1200 pph, 42 chairs
No diesel back-up

I think the Ptarmigan fixed-grip quad is the only Yan left at Louise. A bit of a junker; I recall it feeling creaky and ancient when it was all of two years old. Replacing one fixed-grip with another's a bit of an odd move, mind you. Parks Canada's historically been okay with upping capacity so long as existing lines have been reused.

There is also the Paradise Triple, I predict that is the one to go.

When I was there two years ago I was told that they were proposing the replacement of paradise and possibly the double on the front side, I think olympic is the name of it. The lift mechanic that I spoke with said that paradise needed a capacity upgrade and olympic neded a replacement with more modern equipment but would likely remain a double. So my money would likely be on paradise.

When I was there Ptarmigan seemed to be a well maintained lift that was visably and mechanicaly well maintained.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

Ah. I'd forgotten Louise had installed a Yan pre-Friendly Giant. You're right, Paradise makes far more sense age-wise and capacity-wise.

The Olympic got pulled from the trail map last year, although I haven't gotten up to the Lake since then to see if its actually been removed or if it's just sitting tight. Assuming its still there, Olympic has to be a contender for the longest ride time in Canada. It just keeps going and going, over this rise and the next as it plods along up the hill to nowhere in particular. I'm pretty sure that Glacier + Top of the World + run down is timewise a better bet if you're in a hurry to get from the base to the bottom of the Summit Platter, so Olympic (at least in its fixed-grip 2C incarnation) has been a white elephant for some time. Certainly a classic for the lift junkies, mind you.

I have heard the park is being fairly restrictive and it will be a "hike to" only installation

The Rosebowl Express at Beaver Creek won't be installed for another 2 to 5 years for those who were interested.

The new chair 9 at Mammoth has been named the "Cloud Nine Express" by the winner of a naming contest.

Also, has anyone heard about plans for Tenney Mountain, NH? They closed this year to focus on expansion and were possibly going to get a Doppelmayr CTEC high speed quad this summer?

As well, there is a Dopp-CTEC lift being installed at the 2010 ski jump in Callaghan Valley this summer. Presumably a single or double.

I didn't know that Crystal was starting their tram, it was just always a distant dream. They said they would do it if "next" year was a good season. Where will it be going now that Northway has taken up most of the North Backcountry

The tram is not being started this summer, where did you get that? It will if built go from the main lodge to the summit house, opening no new terrain. I think it will be more of a summer attraction than ski lift.

Yes - Mad River Glen in Vermont is having their single chair reconstructed by Doppelmayr/CTEC this year.

Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.
