Kids loading a gondola is 100'xs so much easier for them, Than trying to get them to stand at the load board, and pay attention to the chair coming up behind them. A dola, they take the skis off, step up and in. What's so hard about that?
This is why Copper is considering (still, 6 or 7 years into it, nothing definite of course) the K gondola for the Union Creek area. This is also why so many areas have installed Magic Carpets for first-timer lifts. I'm with tahoeistruckin in that it should eliminate many mis-loads. From personal experience, the hardest thing about skiing with my kids is loading and unloading the chairs.

VAIL - Vail Resorts wants to create a new place for skiers to get on Vail Mountain at the corner of Forest Road and the South Frontage Road, just west of the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort.
It announced plans Thursday to install a high-speed lift there that will connect with Chair 26, the Pride Lift on the Safari Trail, and to build 108 luxury condominiums totaling 195,000 square-feet near the base of the lift. The development will be built by Vail Resorts and managed by Ritz-Carlton.
The new lift, which would be between Lionshead's Chair 19 and the Cascade Village's Chair 20, will bring to five the number of high-speed lifts connecting Vail the town with Vail the mountain. The company said it plans to begin marketing the project in six to 18 months, pending U.S. Forest Service and town of Vail approval, according to Vail Resorts chief executive Adam Aron,.
A permit for a new lift typically takes up to six months, said Dave Ozawa, a Forest Service ranger who oversees activity on Vail Mountain.
"It depends on the degree of controversy. It will require an environmental analysis and public meetings," he said.
By proposing the new lift, the resort company will be increasing the value of already hot slopeside real estate.
All 16 of the nearby Gore Creek Townhomes sold in record time, bringing as much as $1,005 per square foot, Aron said. At the Arrabelle in Lionshead, being built on the old gondola building site, the ski company sold all 67 of the residences.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.
"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

Vail Resorts Seeks Lift Changes in Sun Down Bowl
Valley Roundup - 10/17/03
The U.S. Forest Service is soliciting public comments on a request by Vail Resorts to replace Chair 5 in Vail’s Sun Down Bowl with a high-speed quad chairlift and install another quad in Sun Down that would deposit skiers near the top terminal of Chair on Vail’s front side.
The long-term plan, first reported in The Vail Trail in February, would provide an alternative way out of Sun Down if Chair 5 were to malfunction. It also would improve traffic flows for skiers trying to get out of the Back Bowls and back to Lionshead. Perhaps the biggest change would be reduced lift lines for Chair 5 on powder days, when the old fixed-grip triple chair often sees lines in excess of 45 minutes.
“We are only at the scoping part of this process, but until you get it scoped, you don’t know whether or not you can do the project, so it’s kind of silly to start planning if there’s going to be a big bump in the process,” said Brian McCartney, head of mountain operations for Vail.
The bottom terminal of Chair 5 would be moved 10 feet to the west, which would require the removal of some trees, and the bottom terminal of the new Sun Down lift would be located to the west of Chair 5’s bottom terminal. That would require re-grading 1.4 acres and would include impacts to .01 acres of wetlands.
While some skiers will rejoice at the idea of shorter lift lines at Chair 5, others may object to losing their private play ground on the western slopes of Sun Down.
“It’s so hard to please everybody when you talk about skiing Vail, but western Sun Down is generally just under-utilized. There’s going to be those people who used to consider that their private, secret stash who are going to find out they have a few new best friends.”
To comment on the proposed changes, write Cal Wettstein, District Ranger, Holy Cross Ranger District, P.O. Box 190, Minturn, CO 81645, or fax him at (970) 827-9343 by Nov. 17. For more information, call Dave Ozawa, USFS, at (970) 827-5715, or e-mail him at dozawa@fs.fed.us.
Also, wasn't Heavenly going to install a six pack on North Bowl/Olympic?
