Why would they want a gondola? The beginners would have to take their skis off each time they go up - and that can be hard for a 5 year old...

I take it you have not spent much time loading a gaggle of 5 year olds on to a fixed grip begginger chair.( or any other up hill device)
Kids loading a gondola is 100'xs so much easier for them, Than trying to get them to stand at the load board, and pay attention to the chair coming up behind them. A dola, they take the sksi off, step up and in. Whats so hard about that?

I believe Snowmass has plans to install a beginner HSQ at the top of Elk Camp this summer too.

Mt. Baldy Ski Corp. Purchases New Chairlift
News - Resorts
Oliver (BC), Canada - Snowy nights and bluebird days made for one of the busiest holiday periods on record at Mt. Baldy. Now Mount Baldy Ski Corporation (MBSC) is giving skiers and snowboarders a glimpse into the future in the form of a single quad chair currently on display at the bottom of the newly developed Sugarlump area. The chair symbolizes the new Leitner-Poma Alpha 120 quad chairlift recently purchased for the 2007-2008 ski and snowboard season, the first major expansion at Mt. Baldy in over 30 years.

“Not only did we have one of our earliest openings in recent years but we saw a large increase in our skier visits over the winter break - the secret of Baldy is out amongst skiers and snowboarders,” said Tim Foster, General Manager of MBSC. “The purchase of the new quad chairlift represents our continued commitment to building Baldy’s reputation within B.C. and throughout North America.”

The Leitner-Poma quad chairlift, scheduled to be installed on the Sugarlump area in the summer of 2007, will provide access to nine additional beginner and intermediate ski trails on 131 acres previously cleared in the summer of 2006. The eight-minute chair ride will carry guests 742 vertical feet, or 226 vertical meters, up Sugarlump Peak for its 360-degree views of the backside of McKinney overlooking the valley below.

“Guests have already been hiking up Sugarlump to ski and snowboard on the new terrain and the response has been overwhelmingly positive - there is always something new to discover at our hidden gem,” said Brett Sweezy, MBSC President. “With everything in place for the new quad chair, we continue to move along with our development plans, and are now one step closer to growing Baldy into B.C.’s first boutique four-season resort.”

Along with the ski area expansion, Mt. Baldy Real Estate, Inc. plans to introduce new real estate developments for the 2007/2008 ski season. “Mt. Baldy is getting a reputation for being the alternative destination for ski resort real estate purchasers. The small village feeling and quiet atmosphere are attracting many people’s attention,” said Brent Baker, vice president of Real Estate at Mt. Baldy. “We are excited to be offering a mix of residential building sites and tourism oriented accommodation for this coming summer.”

New Ski Area for BC Boasts North America's Longest Vertical

Revelstoke, BC (Ski Press)— Revelstoke Mountain Resort, formerly Mt. MacKenzie, announced a $22 million gondola and high speed quad chairlift contract today with Leitner Poma Canada Inc. that will make it North America’s longest skiable vertical at 1,829 m (6,000 ft).

The Resort also announced the signing of a purchase agreement contract for a spring takeover of renowned local helicopter skiing operation, Selkirk Tangiers. The signing of these contracts, in combination with the Resort’s acquisition of CAT Powder Skiing, will make Revelstoke Mountain Resort a one-stop destination for helicopter, snowcat and lift skiers.

“We have been waiting for years for the dream of this resort to take shape and now it’s finally happening,” said Mayor Mark McKee, “This is a monumental day for all of us in Revelstoke and I’m thrilled to be a part of it all.”

Peter Schlunegger, current owner and operator of Selkirk Tangiers, explained that following Revelstoke Mountain Resort’s spring takeover, the team of expert guides and professionals would remain the same and that Schlunegger would continue to assist the resort with the management of the heli-skiing operation.

The spring 2007 acquisition of Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing will mean that, in total, Revelstoke Mountain Resort will boast over 500,000 acres of skiable terrain.

With phase one of lift installations beginning spring 2007, the first 8-person gondola and high speed quad chairlift will be operational by fall 07/08 in time for the official opening of this proposed $1 billion resort.

The gondola will initially take skiers from the upper village to an elevation of 1700 m while the high speed quad chairlift will begin at 1595 m and rise to 2245 m. In 2008, the gondola will be extended, creating North America’s longest vertical descent with 1,829 m (6,000 ft) of lift serviced ski terrain.

Located near Revelstoke, B.C. (population 8,500), the Revelstoke Mountain Resort, more than 8,000 heli and cat skiers flock to the region annually. The mountain receives 40 to 60 feet of annual snowfall (about four storeys high).

Revelstoke Mountain Resort will also be a multi-phased resort community featuring a village heli-center, hotels, condominiums, town homes and single family lots. More than 5,000 homes are part of the long term plan for this sustainability-driven resort. A design and architectural team with years of resort planning expertise, including Perkins Design Associates and Ray Letkeman and Associates, master planned the Resort Village which will house commercial, retail, and residential space.

The Revelstoke Mountain Resort development team also presented a $10,000 donation to the Canadian Avalanche Association and the Canadian Avalanche Centre, headquartered in Revelstoke, as well as a $5,000 donation to the Revelstoke Community Foundation, the official centennial legacy project of the community of Revelstoke.

Real estate offerings in this master planned resort community are marketed exclusively by Sotheby’s International Realty Canada, a Vancouver-based luxury real estate firm whose Revelstoke Mountain Resort Presentation Centre opened today. The first release in Phase 1 of the resort will include 60 resort condos ranging in size from 450 square foot studios to 1500 square foot penthouses. The homes are expected to be released in spring 2007.

I heard a rumor at Sugarbush that there is an investor who wants to string a gondola back up at south. (sorry, lincoln peak is the new buzz word.) Won't happen next year but just something I heard. That would be good if that happened though! Something about making it a 4 season resort with gondy rides to the summit.

I wonder if they would possibly consider pulling an ASC with this one and stringing the line for this possible new gondi down to Route 100. That hill going up to the ski area is brutal, though not as bad as Bolton Valley.
Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

No matter how far off topic it may be, pics of an '89 Town Car are always appropriate! A buddy of mine in Maine bought one for his daughter to go to college because he wanted her to "be safe"!!

Make sure you spec them with an evac hook or loop on the taco, an evac rope will cut the plastic grip tongue in half.

Do the FG's come with plastic tongues? We use a device called a rope saver on our evac equipment - which is a little U shaped piece of steel tubing that sits over the rope/grip. But I will pass it on!

I read about the chair 12 project a few years ago before 15 & 18 were built and before 11 was upgraded. The original plan was to have th gondola start in town and have a midstation at the bottom of the current lift #12 and top at the top of the current lift 12, then use 12 to replace 11 (then a FGT). Why would they want a gondola now? Lift 12 doesn't get used all that much especially not to ski laps (although I usually ride it to access the mountain instead of 6).

Using 1 to replace 2 is only going to make lift 2 four years younger (current #2 ran at Vail 1976-1992 and at BC ever since) but maybe the parts are more readily available since that would make Beaver Creeks lifts 100% Dopp/ CTEC. It will be interesting to see what they come up with to replace #1. I wonder if #3 will ever be built (serving more terrain below Rose Bowl and to the left (looking uphill) of the current terrain served by #6.

Ok, anyone know of new lifts for next Summer? Here are a few possible ones:

1 Crystal Mountain, Washington DoppelmayrCTEC Triple Northway
2 Tamarack, Idaho DoppelmayrCTEC High Speed Quad
3 Whistler, British Columbia DoppelmayrCTEC High Speed Quad Crystal Express
4 Lookout Pass, Idaho Double Northstar
5 Beaver Creek, Colorado DoppelmayrCTEC High Speed Quad Rose Bowl
6 Burke Mountain, Vermont Leitner-Poma High Speed Quad Willoughby Express

Both Crystal Mountain and Whistler are starting their trams, but they are 2 year projects.

Do you mean the Peak-to-Peak funitel? If that's a two-year project, what happens to the Roundhouse and Rendezvous lodges? Will they be closed to accomodate the construction? That's a possibility, because they would integrate the terminals into existing lodges, right?

Lift 1 at B.C. got new electrical controls and drive about a year ago and it is supported by a current manufacturer so it is not surprising that they would replace 2 with it.
