It is a very popular spot for pilgrams going to the Mansa Devi temple atop the mountain. It can be also accessed by a paved road with hawkers, sellers and food stalls at every turn. Atop, its typical Indian chaos - vendors selling bright baskets with offerings. More information of the area Here
I'm not certain who constructed the lift. The safety systems, steel and drive/ Gearbox and other components seemed to be in good shape. The towers were a little unusual, considering the lifting frames and assembly equipment. There is a video of the gravity launching of the cabins. Like everywhere in India.. always labour intensive.
Again - I'd be interested in comments of the operation..
