I've got a camping trip planned for Basin Lake in two weeks, which requires me to hike up to Bullion Basin, then connect to the Pacific Crest Trail over to Scout Pass before decending down to Basin Lake for an overnight. I've done this every year around this time as a warm up for the hiking season, but with all the extra snow in that area, it looks as if its not melting all that quickly.

Anyone been up to Crystal in the past week? If so, how quickly is the Bullion Basin area melting off?

Look at the Crystal Webcam, it looks pretty white to me still. At the Crystal base area at 4480 feet, there is still 59 inches of snow on the ground!

Yeah I've been watching the webcam, as well as the snow depth reports, but the trail is on the opposite side of the valley which receives more sunlight. I'm hoping that area is melting quicker then what we're seeing on the website.

I've heard that if there is enough snow left on June 24th when they open Chinook and Rex for scenic rides, they will open Green Valley for summer skiing! They've done it before, but not for awhile.

One year they had Green Valley open until July!

Used to happen quite a bit, then they stopped, then one season tried it again. It was a good time.
