DoppelmayrCTEC is still building two different towerhead styles. They have the old Doppelmayr (left) towerheads, and the modified CTEC (right) towerheads on high speed quads. It seems like more lifts have been built with the Doppelmayr style, and really only DV and a few others have the CTEC towerheads. Is it an option just like the grips, or are they going to decide on one of them?

Which type is easier to work on?

the Cross arm and lifting frame are the same on those two towers, if you look closly, so is the walkway mount points. The walkways and safty lanyard rails are the only difference and the style of walkway is an option Ctec is a step through off the ladder Doppelmayr is step to the side off the ladder. Now if the lifting fram looked more CTEC ones with the curved gussets connecting the lifting frame to the uprights then I would be interested to know if its an option.

I'm guessing that they'll stick with the Doppelmayr towers, because they said after the merger that Doppelmayr line gear would stay. The CTEC towers from 2005 are more Doppelmayr-ish than 2004. Now they have a Doppelmayr ladder instead of a CTEC one, angled towers, something CTEC hardly ever did (I mean not vertical)

CTEC, Hall, and YAN all used the vertical towers, for what it's worth. From what little I've seen of the two different styles of lifting frames, they both appear to work well. I think as long as you've got somewhere to attach your rig, it's all good.

Ctec's towers were hardly ever angled because their sheave assemblies could rotate more...this isn't the case on Doppelmayr sheave assemblies which is why you see them angled. I think it looks cooler anyway

YAN used angled towers on later installations... Remember this pic? Lift Engineering did the profile and everything for our lifts.

This Thiokol tower is angled too... but I guess it is pre CTEC :)
