I know about the accident at Vail, but on a recent trip to Mammoth I rode the upper panorama gondola with a man who claimed there was an accident on the old Gondola 2 (Bell Gondola). Is this true and what exactly happened?

Also, was Gondola 2 at Big Sky the former gondola from Squaw Valley that had a serious accident?

There was never an accident on either of the prior gondola's at Squaw Valley to my knowledge. However, the tram did have an accident.

The only minor accident that I know that took place at Mammoth on the old gondola was a cabin that was empty fell off the line while exiting the midstation. Luckily no one was in it at the time. Same type of thing happened at Sunshine Village a few months ago.

He claimed that a car fell off the line in the section between the top station and the last tower near the top of Chair 3. He said something like 3 people died and it happened in the late 70's. I'm not a believer.

Also, I'm under the impression that Squaw Valley not only had the tram accident, but also an accident with their gondola.

Steamboat had a "light side" cabin fall and hit the slope on a very windy day back in the 1970's.
