It's just the type of tower. They are towers that the carriers go through, not like a normal tower. These types of towers offer more strength.

The area between the legs of the uphill end of a bottom terminal.

Wonder why they have 18 sheaves on the first portal tower, then a normal amount on the next.

I like how Yan had to put a support sheave on each end of the assembly. All of our Yan depression towers have a similar setup, thogh none are as drastic. With 16 sheaves, I don't think the rope is going to come off- that's quite the change in profile there. Which lift is that from?

THats a cool picture. Out here it is rare for a portal tower on the lift line (not right after the terminal) but siberia express at squaw has a big one, and it is easy to tell why it is needed. Someday i will get a good picture or 2 of it.
