Oil Company Buys Shanty Creek
Wed, Mar 29, 2006 - By Mike Muha

Trinidad Resort and Club, a subsidiary of Apex Oil Company in Missouri bought Shanty Creek Resort and Club last week. Shanty Creek was owned by Comerica, Inc. after the bank foreclosed on the resort's $20.3 million mortgage two years ago.

Comerica has been keeping the resort alive, but really is not in the resort management business.

Trinidad Resort and Club has experience managing ski and golf resorts; it owned Copper Mountain between 1981 and 1997 place has managed several golf courses.

update... the new owners have decided not to operate the 'Summit Slopes' ski portion of the area for the upcoming season. This is a loss of 2 double lifts and 12 runs. Future plans have yet to be decided if The Summit will ever ski again. They will operate the tubing park that is there for the guests though. The Schuss Mt. part of Shanty Creek will operate as normal with the possibility of added night skiing terrain and nights.

I can't say I'm too surprised, I only skied at summit once and I was very disappointed. It’s sad to see any ski area disappear but hopefully this ownership change will result in improvements at Shuss.

the Summit Slopes WILL be open this year, unlike stated before. At least one more year. Plan on more terrain park features to dot the slopes

If that Oil Company has even a small percentage of the 10.36 BILLION QUARTERLY profit that Exxon/Mobil just announced today for 2nd quarter 2006, I think they'll have a little $$ to throw around

I also heard on the news to put what a 10.36 Billion dollar quarterly profit into persepctive is that Exxon/Mobil made essentially $79,0000 a SECOND for the entire 2nd quarter :shocking:
