The first ride, a sky ride by Doppelmayr CTEC, Salt Lake City, Utah, is planned for a 2007 debut.

“We will have pieces starting to come in soon,” said Rusty Fitzgerald, director of operations. “The ride will have eight-passenger gondolas and be about 1,750 feet long. It will have a capacity of 2,400 passengers an hour each way.”

The price tag for this ride is over $4 million. But, Errol McKoy, president of the State Fair of Texas, said they aren’t overlooking improvements to the midway for the 2006 run, Sept. 29-Oct. 22. A new $1 million light and sound show will debut. The second phase of a $1.5 million canvas refurbishment should also be complete.
