Earlier this season, I skied Powder Mountain, UT and was amazed at the uphill options available at that resort:

- FG2 Chairlift
- FG3 Chairlift
- FG4 Chairlift
- Poma Tow
- Snow Cat Tow
- Bus Shuttle
and next year:
- HSQ Chairlift

Also JHMR has:

- Tram (until this year, anyway)
- Gondola
- FG doubles, triples & quads
- HSQs
- Poma Tows

Squaw has:

- Tram
- Pulse Gondola
- Funitel
- HS6, HSQ
- Quads, Triples & Doubles
- Rope Tows

Can you think of other resorts that utilize a large range of lift options to get people up the mountain?

Which is the biggest (in terms of lift capacity) U.S. ski area without a double chair?

Aspen with only 7 lifts has...

1 6pass gondola
1 HSQ
1 HSD
2 FGQ
1 FQT
1 FGD

That's quite a range for you.

Winter Park also has a different kind of range... :wacko2:

1 HSS brand-new that breaks down all the time
4 Actual high speed detachable quads
3 Low speed detachable quads
3 1/2 Triples
7 Doubles
2 1/2 surface lifts (if the handle tow by gemini's still there)
A handfull of Magic Carpets
And best of all... a 3-year old Rope Tow!! I thought those things went out with the dinosaurs.

Whistler/Blackcomb has to be on this list:

10 Passenger Gondola
8 Passenger Gondola
6 Passenger Gondola
A lot of HSQs
FG 3
FG 2
T-Bars
Carpets
And with a 3-S system coming in the near future.

Skierdude, your Aspen list appears to be wrong. I don't know of any fixed grip triple at Aspen Mountain, but there are 3 FG doubles.

He could be thinking of Thunderbowl at Aspen Highlands.

Ajax has:
1 gondola
2 fixed-grip quads, one of which never operates
3 fixed doubles, one of which never operates
1 detachable triple (there's a sign at the bottom now that says 'yes folks, it's a triple')
1 detachable quad.

Highlands has 3 detachable quads and a fixed triple, unless you count Five Trees then there's a fixed double as well. Not much variety there.

What about the triple next to the HSQ at the bottom that runs part way up?

To straighten aspen facts up:
-The little nell lift (limited operation quad) only operates during special events. The day I skiied there, they used it because they shut down the gondola due to avalanch control. It is used to get over to the shadow mountain lift.
-Bell mountain (limited operation double) runs on a regular schedule. It usually consists of fridays, saturdays, and sundays. It does not run during the week although it may during christmas.
-If you still dont believe me that Ruthies is a High speed triple then check out the Aspen Pics thread as it has a pic of three people riding to a chair to prove this.
-Aspen Highlands now has two fixed triples. Thunder bowl and deep temerity. Both are exactly the same.
-If you count five trees then there is six lifts at highlands.

 Duh! I wasn't even thinking of Bell Mountain and for some reason, I thought FIS was a triple, but its a double. I mainly posted for Winter Park.

Most of the time, they only let 2 on unless the lines are long.

Winter Park/ Mary Jane do have issues with their lifts, I'm glad it's not just me! Let me guess the low-speed detatchables: Zephyr, Gemini, & Prospector. Might as well throw the new HSS in there too since people can't seem to load/ unload it and/ or it is not capable of running at full speed for longer than 2 min at a time. Definately a source of irritation for many this past season. I'm ready for them to put quad carriers back on and crank it up.
Anyway, back on topic, Yes the handle tow next to Gemini is still there but never used as is the large wooden ski jump. Winter Park also has two new platter lifts (installed in '04): Spirit and Appolo for beginners.

Ok how about a little international flavor to this, Engelberg, Switzerland has:
1 funicular railway
1 6 man gondola
2 80 person tram
1 8 person tram
1 50 person rotating tram (approx)
1 FGD
1 HSD
1 FGQ
2 HSQ
2 HS6
4 T bars
1 Rope tow
1 platter tow

That'd make it 4 1/2 surface lifts. I've never had a problem with Prospector Express, it's High Lonesome Express that takes soooo damn long. You got the other 2 right!

It's more of how "lonesome" it is. It's a boring lift to ride (except for that one part where it goes down), it's really slow for a hsq, and it takes 7 1/2-8 minutes to go 700 vertical feet! I can't imagine what it was like as a fgq.
