Why is it that this lift has such a strange terminal design. It looks like a mix between the Doppelmayr CLD-260 and the old version of the POMA Competition/Challenger station. Are there more stations like this? Also, why is the station so strange? What is the station design name?

For those who don't know what the CLD-260 and the Competition/challenger stations are, here are some pictures.

Poma of America was most likely experimenting with its own terminal designs during this time period before coming up with the compitition design the fallowing year. There were only 3 lifts built that used this type of terminal I believe. Rexx at Crystal, Angel Express at Sunshine Village and the one at Waterville Valley. I can't remember its name though.

If i remeber correctly way back we coined it the Angel terminal, did we not Cameron? Here are some photos of the one at Sunshine, it's a noticably longer terminal than newer models. The return terminal doesn't have the taller area over the drive equipment and kind of looks like a UNI-G. The lift at Sunshine has a massive diesel engine which provides quite speedy evac i'm told. I'm not sure if the other lifts have the same.

I never noticed that before, the return terminal does look a lot like the UNI-G or UNI-GS

That is indeed the name we coined but I'm not sure if that was the terminals actual name. It would be interesting to know until this was the first generation competition terminal. I've contacted LPOA about this but never got a reply back. Maybe I should contact someone else from POMA.

This is probably the first-generation Competition terminal. The older models (such as the Flyer and Colorado) are Performance; the Eagle as shown in the photo above) is a Competition.
Rough dates based upon lift construction and parts catalogues (I forgot my newspaper at lunch yesterday, can you tell?)
Performance- '85-'87
Rainier Express, Angel Express, Waterville Express- '88
Competition- '89-'92
Omega with TB grips- '93-'97
Omega- '98- present (with variations)

I liked the terminal design we're discussing here; it's not exactly your typical Poma design. Here it is in its former pristine white paint job, circa 1996. I'm not as fond of the green.

I agree with the part about you not liking it in green. I would prefer it in red like the Birds of Prey at beaver creek. That is also the lift that the '88 design kind of reminds me of if it didn't have that raised section. What is the Challenger then?

I don't think Red would fit in at Crystal. All of their lifts are green and it looks good on the Doppelmayrs.

The Challenger terminal is the one we keep trying to identify. I thought it was the official name for the terminal that used TB grips but looked somewhat like an Omega, whith the whole terminal moving as a carriage rather than having a separate interior carriage. Perhaps Lift Dinosaur knows.

Here's a power point I made showing the evolution of Poma terminals. Please tell me if anything is incorrect.
