It uses a Unifix terminal and has a loading carpet. Has anyone else ever seen anything like this?

There is only one of these in North America, it is at Snow Valley in Ontario, Canada. It was built by Leitner in 1997 and is called "Wide Load" There are quite a few of them in Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Lift world info has some info on where fixed sixes are. Most are made by doppelmayr but there are some garaventa, leitner, and poma.

I have skied at Snow Valley, Barrie Ontario and been on the "Wideload" 6 passenger fixed grip
a few times. The slow moving carpet at the loading zone brings the "relative speed" of the chair down even lower than the actual speed, so each beginner skier feels like the chairlift was slowed down just for them.
As well , each 6 passenger chair does not need to be filled to capacity. Having only 4 or 5 beginners on a chair that is 6 people wide is probably safer than loading a 4 passenger chair to capacity. The concept does work, this expert skier thinks that beginners had no trouble loading on the day that he visited. Besides the lift is now 9 years old. If there was a problem with the interaction of the skiers with the moving carpet (and the chair lift at the chair loading zone), don't you think that the Ski Resort would have modified the setup in the second or third years of operation? I suggest that there is no problem, just a very good design idea that sold better in Europe than it did in North America. Seems like a good idea that looks like it works. Since we are not the ski resort owners I don't see how we can judge from a distance.
