Well if anyone remembers, california got off to a bit of a slow start this winter. This march has been nuts. In the bay area we had 22 days of rain and all that rain turned into some of the best snow I have seen in tahoe. With snow levels usually between 3-4000 feet the snow has been light, dry and DEEP. Kirkood got 16 feet in 16 days early in the month, so the total was probably closer to 20-25 FEET for the month. And it isn't even close to being done DUMPING. Last night 1.5-2.5 feet accumulated and tommorow through monday will bring another 2-3 feet. Following that 2 small storms will roll through (producing probably a foot or so) then early next week (10th or 11th) another massive storm is expected. All this snow is just nuts.

Kirkwood currently has a base depth of 200-320 inches (16.5 to 26.5 feet) and a season snowfall total of 470-710 inches. So 500-800 inches should be no sweat

The awesome thing about these storms is the pattern. Storm rolls in during the morning, it snows moderatley during the day then at night it dumps. In the morning it all clears up for a day or maybe two then the cycle repeats. That means this past month there were 8+ 2-3 foot powderdays. I was lucky to get three. So spring ought to be fun when it starts, maybe in may if we are lucky. Mammoth will be open to the 4th and we will be riding powder untill at least mid-april. So if you can get to tahoe I would reccomend it, this year is turning out to be nothing short of epic.

Of course I love skilifts too, which is why I'm here. I'd like to learn more about them and maybe work in the Ski industry later on in life.

Let it snow.

Yep, this winter turned out pretty sweet after the slow start. I will be at mammoth for 4th of july again this year, and I will be at sugar bowl for 5 days during spring break.
