Looking through all the resorts on the site I happened to notice some of them were lost (shut down) and especially after looking at other sites (WBSki's for instance) I noticed more of them but me not being as knowlegdeable about the resorts as others I'm sure are I was wondering if we could make a list of lost resorts. I was wondering especially in Idaho, Utah and Washington. Thanks a bunch

There are three lost Utah ski areas that I know of:
Elk Meadows, Beaver: recent closure. As far as I know, all the lifts are still standing. I think that Holladay Investment Group bought the place a couple years ago at a forecloser auction for a mere $1 million (including all of its debt), and plan to open the resort in the unknown future under the right management.
Blue Mountain, Monticello: 1950's to ~1982. This was definitely a locals' resort. Increasing insurance premiums and a series of bad-snow years forced this are to close. I think the chair lift has been hauled.
Clear Creek Ski Area, Clear Creek: 1946-1952-ish. This was a weird find on a 7.5' map---a rope tow was installed up the slope in the town of Clear Creek (Carbon County). the area closed when the motor gave out.
Does anybody know of any other lost Utah ski areas?
Well, there's my first entry at skilifts.org.

I have about 40 Lost Utah ski areas in my data base, but there seems to be an unusually large number of "name changes" and "planned, never built" (which I count as "lost"). Maybe about 18 actual closed areas, including the three mentioned.

Blue Mountain had a Poma platter and a Mitey Mite. The Poma goes way back to 1958.

Wasn't that lift in Monticello a Poma platter pole lift? I am pretty sure it is gone...drove past it on my way to Telluride a couple years back...the lift line is still pretty prominent though

Not sure what type of 'remnants' you are looking for, but few of the dead areas here have left much. The Milwaukee Ski Bowl still has remains of the ski jumps and some of the rope tow system along with some of the Tally-Ho lifts. The American River Ski Bowl still has the lodge, but the lifts were removed. Yodelin has the lodge and Mt Pilchuck has the bottoms of the towers still in the ground. I've heard there were tows left behind at the Satus Pass area near the Yakima Indian Reservation and a co-worker who grew up in that area in the 80s said some of the locals would work on the tows and get them running and use them....
In WA, when a ski area died that had lifts the lifts were sold off and re-installed in other areas. You won't find any dead ski lifts except for ones within a ski area (such as the Dino, last used in 1987). You can still find some of the old lifts from Yodelin and/or Pilchuck in use at Crystal or Stevens Pass.

I know also in Utah there was a resort at the top of Emmigration Canyon but it failed due to low snow totals. Yet it did have a couple of tows and a TBar I believe all of which have since been removed.

Well, i know where the closed Tillicum Valley area is now! Went up to Silver Star for the first time this weekend, got some photos of it on the way down and tried to get to the hill but it seems its been sealed off by new houses...Will post some pix tomorrow. I also dropped by Crystal Mtn and got some lift pix and found a Silver Star boneyard with old Yan HSQ stuff and stuff from old T-bars ect.

Heres a hi-res picture i took of it. According to locals there was only a J-bar or T-bar or something, im guessing the double never got installed.
