Anyone have the new UNI-G or GS DoppelTecs? On our Silver Strike lift the tie rod ends that pivot the footrest keep breaking...or should I say the bolt that fixes the tie rod to the carrier keeps shearing off. We experience this once a week. We haven't had this on Sultan yet and it seems like we had this happen right off the bat with Silver Strike. We upgraded the grade of the bolts and this helped but didn't solve the problem. Anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking that it could be vibration caused by the hold downs that angle the lift line.

There ya go...that's the original post moved out here

Jeff- to answer your question yes it's possible to upgrade the bolt grade which we have done. We went from grade 5 to grade 8 and this really helped but didn't toatally solve our problem. As far as the tie rods go...this isn't the problem (bolts shear off inside the tie rod) so there is no need to mess with those. I think I've come up with an idea that might work but I'm not going to tell ya what it is unless it works
I'll ask the boss if I can post pics if another one breaks soon

Why do the hold downs on Silver Strike for the turn make any more vibration than normal hold downs at the beginning of every lift?

I haven't really thought about that...but it may be because the assembly is on an angle? Every lift has a little vibration...but you know how rough a depression assembly can be.. I'm not an engineer so I can't really say...I'm just speculating

We have had those rod ends on our chairs for years and havent had any significant problems but...... The one time we were breaking them regularly we asked the lift operators to stop hanging from the back of the bars and the problem was solved.

We have had the same problem with the tie rod bolts breaking on our 2005 Uni-GS detach Quad. The lift only has restraining bars without the foot rests. We changed the bolts last summer from grade 5 to grade 8. This has helped but hasn't eliminated the problem. We have found that the restraining bars are wider than the distance between the outside of the tie rods. Therefore when you tighten the bolts that connect the tie rods to the restraining bar you put a sideways load on the bolts that connect the tie rod to the chair. We have added washers between the tie rods and the restraining bar to lessen the sideway load on the last few chairs that we fixed.

Jeebus...you hit the nail on the head! We've done everything you just said and they still break on us! :censored2:

Maybe bigger rod ends, 7/16" instead of the 3/8" and then the proper shimming with washers...

:cursing: so the tie rod end issue still lives despite all the giant minds put to werk on the issue. this is how i see the problem. lest's start with a fastner(nut and bolt fer you tech 1's) it has a torque spec depending on grade. so we insert the bolt through square stock(seat back) and then use a tie rod end as the nut for the bolt. as temp, vibration and gorilla operators do thier worst the torque value changes constantly, hence causing the fastener to fail right at the tie rod seatback surface. please let it be noted that the same tie rod ends have been used fer years, the only change........the bolt goes through sqare stock not a plate like the all the other dopetec carriers prior.
