that looks like more than a derail , looks like the top crown tower ( notice the chair guidage and the fact that the worker does not have a fall restraint harness on indicates that it is not that high off of the ground. I hope). maybe some one got in the way at the top ramp and a wild chair entered the assy.???? looks like the inside U-bolt failed that fastens the evener shaft to the tower. hope no one was hurt . bummer.

It couldn't have been too bad, because the lift was open the next day. It did have to be evac'd when the problem happened.

I agree with Aug's assesment, must have been spectacular to cause the assembly to fall off. Bet the operator was all hyped up after witnessing that.

There are many times that I'm a Top Op for a lift, and I would definitely agree that that would scare me. I have never witnessed a chair get thrown out of terminal without proper reattach, but that would just scare the be jesus of me!
Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

I was thinking a top lift op shoveling the lite side since as of late we in the nw have been getting selfish helpings of new snow . Lift ops after working all season are now real comfy working around the ramps/ terminals and can (I have seen) get scooped up by a chair and tossed some distance and then the chair exits the terminal swinging wildly. Usually when you have mis-un-loads at the top of Riblets the swing from that event is contained in the top terminal chair guidage.

Wind maybe , but since the location is so close to the bullwheel I doubt it. But so much for speculation , does anybody know what really happened . Since i have four Riblets( say "space cheese") to maintain I am very curious.
on another note when a tower is misaligned and you have to adjust the the evener shaft out to compensate for the mis aligned tower ,some inexperienced lift mechanics move the end of the evener shaft dangerously close to the u-bolt. just a thought.

The only times that I have really seen that type of guide is at the top stations of Riblets. The chair was maybe swung outside of the guide. The picture isn't showing a guide on the other side. This could either be the angle of the photo or maybe the guide could have fallen off. It appears the the chair clip on the right is being held back as if it were caught.

Here is a picture of a station with this type of guide:

That chair is scary in the first place, there are towers leaning to one side with cables attached to the cliffs holding it up!

Are those chairs spaced more than normal?

Why couldn't they of come up with "Global Cooling"?

Does anyone have any pics of Edelweiss? Noticed there aren't any in the gallery.

We need some serious hikers. That lift is a ways up the hill. Any takers?

Yes......

I hike in that area all the time. I do a few trips a year up to snow lake which takes you up the ridge line of the other side of the valley.

Wow, you sure got a clear day up there! All the times I've been up there it's seems to be foggy.
