Yea just like a frog , not like the french . it could easily get confusing (rib let) as in " the rib let me eat it"

"hey the sheave on riblet 15 is wobbling" Alot of people call the towers riblets ,I think it is quite humourous.

Doppelmayr is pronounced 'dop-pel-mier.'

Poma is pronounced just like how you would say Poma lift, which would be like 'palm-a' or something close to that.

Leitner is pronounced 'light-ner.'

So true on the Riblet tower thingy. I remember being in ski school in the early eighties and my friends and I would ski Snoqualmie Summit and he would always say, "Meet me at Riblet 2 on Dodge Ridge". You see all the towers had Riblet Decals on them, so of course you would think they were called a Riblet.

Thanks for bring back a humorous memory. :)

You are wrong with Poma. It makes a long O sound so like Poema. I've always heard Doppelmayr pronounced like may, but I could be wrong. You are correct about Leitner.

While we're at it, is there anybody from Vail? My friend says that Roger's Run is pronounced Rogay's.

I think you'll find more people in the industry call them Palm-as (without the L of course). Rolls off the tongue with more ease too.

I am not from Vail but I have been skiing there for 20+ years and I have never heard it pronounced Rogay's, always Roger's.

Remember some of these pronounciations could depend on what part of the continent you are from. I know that one of our mechanics from CO (which he has since gone back) used to pronounce Poma as "Palm-a" whereas many of us here in the east pronounce it as "P-Oh-ma"

Oh, jeez, I've heard so many different pronounciations for those lifts....most of which are not suitable for women and children.

The ironic part about that is that I'm from CO and I've never heard it pronounded Palm-a. I guess it's just what you grew up with.

That's how it's pronounced in French and since Poma is a French company, that's why they say it like that.
