In 1986, the city of Vancouver held Expo 86, a worlds fair that lasted for about 6 months in the heart of Vancouver. There were also two Gondolas installed on the site. One built by Garaventa and one built by Von Roll and I have no idea what became of them. The monorail was moved to Alton Towers England, but there is no mention as to what became of the two Gondola systems. Anyone know?

Do you think it's possible that Von Roll Gondola at Expo 86 is now the River Run Gondola at Keystone? It was installed the same year as the Vancouver one was removed. It's just hard to beleive that the Expo Gondolas simply went to waste after only being used for six months, they had to have ended up somewhere...

I had worked with someone who helped install and maintain those lifts during expo. For the life of me I can't remember the exact locations where they ended up but eventually they were sold and shipped away. If I get a chance I will try and get you a more definate answer.

River Run was a brand new installation so I would say that the Von Roll didn't come from the Vancouver Expo.

It's amazing how many lifts like this are actually scrapped.
