1. Yes, the lift is very short -@1100'. It's intent is to connect the soon to be developed base area to the Snowmass Mall, which is at the top terminal.
2. Your are discussing apples- "a cabriolet" and oranges- "a pulse gondola". A cabriolet is a cabin design- open on the upper section and of the standup variety; a gondola is also a cabin design- enclosed and generally a sitdown, but some also have a combination of standing and sitting; and a "pulse" uses fixed carrier locations which slow for the terminals and then speed up (to 1000 fpm) once leaving the stations.
3. Originally, the lift was to be a pulse cabriolet (cabins generally made by Gangloff), but the price on the Sigma gondola cabins wasn't that far off, so Snowmass opted for the enclosed cabins.
4. When you mentioned "cabriolet", were you thinking like the one at the Canyons? That is a detachable and the terminal size was prohibitive for the area Snowmass had to work with.
Hope this helps!

Not really, there is a jig-back funitel in France and it has detachable grips and it is a non-detachable lift. Plus there are some more fixed pulse gondola's with detachable grips in the world. So really, there are other non-detachable lifts with detachable grips.

Is it just me or do the Pininfarina Diamond cabins look like the Leitner POMA Diamond cabins?

I appears to me that Pininfarina is separate from L-P. They have a long history in automotive design and manufacturing, many times designing prototypes for the likes of Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and even Corvette. I think probably L-P contracted with them to design and manufacture the cabins. More here: http://www.pininfari...index.php?sot=2

You must be talking about the Iron Mountain Tramway, with the orange cabins.
(side note: the GJ tour you're talking about- was that at the roundtable last March?)
