Hi, i'm just brainstorming and having some fun with my ideas.

I'm looking for a ball-park idea of how much it would cost to open up a ski resort with only at first 3 trails, and a Quad chairlift. Max run length of the trails would be about 0.6-0.8 km. Just a small ski centre right outside of the city.

How long on average does it take to clear the land of trees and install chairlifts and all that is needed to get it ready?

Any other information?

You could have it all done in a quick period of time, maybe like 5 months. However, it's going to take a while to get the permits and all the assessments that go along with them.

Do you really need a quad for 3 trails? Talk about congestion. Permits are the biggest hold up on any project, then there can always be more hold up depending on the actual location of the area and if anyone can dig up any historical significance of it.

I'm glad more people are looking at expanding the ski resort industry. However I have been researching the needed actions to build a ski resort and the easy picture rests on one thing. If you have private land or not. This is the stubbling block of the resort I'm working on in Wyoming and the cause of the ultimate failure of the resort (However for those of you interested I am researching a new location on private land that may have a good chance for us and am highly optimistic about this new developement). In the case of public land not only is it required to go through all the use permits etc but also a NEAPA study must be conducted if one has not been already on the land in question and this can run into the millions of dollars. Also if it is USFS land you run into more problems. I figured that I could start a ski resort with two million dollars of start up and an annual income of two hundred thousand over the first fifteen years. However the large expense and red tape associated with the public land became to much of a hassel and I have decided that the only way to build a small resort for a small community is with private land.

I wish you luck and if you need any help or info I'd love to help just post here or PM or email me. Also here is the thread that talks about my proposed resort.
