This former Aspen gondola cabin that was removed last year was re-designed as a DJ booth and used for the Next Snow Search All Stars competition last weekend. I also have some pictures of the actual competition that I will be posting later but with the night lighting conditions and the pyrotechnics used it played havoc with my camera so they are still in the photoshop phase.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

not a bad use! I know my turntable setup would fit in there just fine, but the lack of headroom would drive me nuts!!

I you had enough of them, you could set up a low-cost employee housing complex.

 Maybe thats why the guy who showed up at the aspen sale wanted to buy all of the ones still on the line at the end of the season

We've had a cabin off Excalibur gondola in Merlins (the bar at the base of Blackcomb) for a few years now. Works great as a DJ booth. We also hung a cab from a Prinoth snow cat in there as well (back in '96)

I still can't believe Aspen took off their gondola cabins. The Silver Queen is almost as much of an icon as the JH tram. What kind of cabins do they have in mind for replacements? I hope they use ones with clamshell doors.

Have the cabins already been taken off the line? I wish they didn't get gondolas that look like everyone elses, like I said, I think the Silver Queen is as much of a ski icon as the JH tram.

The cabins should be used until this summer. I can't picture them shutting the gondola to install new cabins during the ski season.

Who made those cars. They don'tlook a lot like CWA cabins but I am not really familiar with the cabins. The gondola is POMA.

full story
The old cabins are poma cabins made in france at the parent factory they still offer what looks like an economy model cabin(all plastic) but the clamshell cabin has been long discontinued.
The current cabins will be used till april 16th the last day Ajax is open, the cabins have been pre-sold and will be picked up at Buttermilk about a 3 weeks later. This summer SQ is getting the new cabins and terminal upgrades nessitated by the new cabins. last summer the gearbox was replaced and the drive line strenthened in anticipation of the new cabins

I'm confuesed about Gondola 2? In an old Warren Miller movie (1988 I believe) it said that Big Sky had two gondolas but I can only find 1 in the lift installation surveys. Did Big Sky buy a used gondola and remove it only a few years later to replace it with the Swift Current Express?

That cabin design was never used on Gondola 1 so this is kind of weird.

The main quad running roughly paralell to gondi 1 was at one point another gondola but I am unsure of make or when it was installed

Well Big Sky opened in 1974 with one gondola (Heron Poma, which is the one that's still there today) and a few other lifts. I guess I could e-mail Big Sky about that question and see what information they have about it.

I believe Gondola Two was a 4 person gondola installed in1983, I don't know the make, but all their other lifts during that time were Heron-Poma.
